Let’s imagine finding ourselves in a completely unknown world full of dangers, with almost faded memories. Sounds horrifying, right?
That’s precisely what Hai to Gensou no Grimgar is based on.
The protagonist Haruhiro suddenly finds himself in a strange world along with many others, with all memories erased but their names.
With only three emotions resonating among them, fear, survival, and instinct, Haruhiro and his new comrades must join forces to face the upcoming challenges undismayed.
Similarities with Demon Slayer:
- Hai to Gensou no Grimgar is an anime about survival. In an unknown world, youngsters train themselves along with their comrades to face severe challenges.
- Goblins are the primary antagonist in the anime, just like Demons in Demon Slayer.

The monster, known as youkai, introduces himself as Tora and has been sealed by a legendary spear for the past 500 years.
Ushio releases Tora and learns to wield the legendary spear, known to be lethal to youkai.
The human and youkai duo takes up the responsibility to rid the world of the nefarious youkai, Hakumen no Mono. Will the pair be successful in saving humanity?

Adachitoka’s Noragami primarily revolves around the life of the self-proclaimed Yato God.
Previously known as the God of Calamity, Yato dreams of having his shrine and millions of followers.
However, his monotonous life and fortune undergo a drastic change when his life crosses with that of Hiyori Iki, a middle school girl.
Similarities with Demon Slayer:
- The anime involves fighting with otherworldly creatures, called Phantoms, which resembles the Demons in Demon Slayer.

6) Claymore (8.0)-
Set in a world where Demons, known as “Youmas,” continue to terrorize humanity, beings called Claymores, half-human, and half-youma, bring about a sigh of relief.
The primary plot revolves around Raki, whose village seeks the help of a Claymore, Clare, to rid the village of a disguised youma.
When the accused turns up to be Raki’s elder brother, he gets forsaken from the village. Raki and Clare pair up to explore the unknown lands and fight youmas along their way.
Similarities with Demon Slayer:
- Claymores protect humans against monstrous youmas, just like the Demon Slayer Corps in Kimetsu no Yaiba.
- Raki and Clare’s duo resembles Tanjiro and Nezuko to a lot extent.
5) Bleach (8.2)-
Ichigo Kurosaki, an ordinary high school student, undergoes a drastic change of fate when his family gets attacked by a Hollow.
They are evil spirits that devour human souls. Ichigo then meets Rukia, a Soul Reaper who gets injured to save the family.
Rukia grants her powers to Ichigo, who then becomes a Soul-Reaper himself. Ichigo and Rukia then set off to take down the Hollows that plague the town.
Other comrades then join them, and together they discover several dark secrets that are of potential harm to the entire human race.
Similarities with Demon Slayer:
- Bleach has Hollows as the primary antagonists, like demons in Demon Slayer.
- Soul-Reapers take the daunting task of taking down these Hollows, which is quite similar to Tanjiro and his comrades.
4) Dororo (8.4)-
When all his lands are dying, the greedy Samurai lord Daigo seeks the help of demons to save his land.
The 12 great demons respond to his plea, but at the cost of a sacrifice. Daigo’s firstborn was a child without any limbs, nor eyes or ears or skin, but was still living.
Terrified by this, he disposes of the child in a nearby stream. But fate has something else in hand. The child gets rescued by a master of prosthetics, and he provides the child with limbs and a face. He grows but without any senses.
He leaves his foster father’s home to defeat the 12 demons and gain each of his body parts that they took as a sacrifice.
On his way, he encounters a young orphan boy, Dororo, and together this duo sets off to fight for their survival in a demon-infested land.
Similarities with Demon Slayer:
- The adventures that the duo partakes in to defeat the demons and regain his body parts is a significant point of similarity with Demon Slayer.
3) Samurai Champloo (8.5)-
When the young yet clumsy waitress Fuu Kasumi unintentionally picks up a fight with a group of Samurais, she is saved by Mugen.
He subdues the entire group and saves her. However, he is met with a skilled fighter Jin, who matches up to his caliber giving him a tough time.
In the process, the magistrate’s son gets killed, and the two of them get arrested and eventually get executed.
Fuu saves the two and decides to find a certain samurai who smells like sunflowers. Thus the three embark on a quest full of action, comedy, and some skillful sword-fighting.
Similarities with Demon Slayer:
- To a lot extent, the trio resembles Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke from Demon Slayer.
- Fighting with swords to defeat their enemies makes it similar to Demon Slayer at some point.
2) Jujutsu Kaisen (8.7)-
When Yuji Itadori, an idle high school student, indulges himself in an other-worldly incident, he gets dragged into the world of exorcism and curses.
Yuji swallows a cursed object, which is later revealed to be Sukuna, the King of Curse’s finger.
It exposes him to a chain of supernatural incidents, to fight which he joins the Tokyo Jujutsu High, where he meets Megumi and Nobara.
Along with other comrades, the trio embarks on a quest to exorcise the Curses from the city.
Similarities with Demon Slayer:
- Like demons in Demon Slayer, we have Cursed, formed from human malice, in Jujutsu Kaisen.
- The trio, Yuji, Megumi, Nobara, and their senior, Gojo sensei, resemble the Demon Slayer trio with Rengoku or Tengen.
- Like in Demon Slayer, Tanjiro lost his family. Same in Jujutsu Kaisen, the protagonist lost his best friend and teacher in front of his eyes.
1) Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood (9.1)-
Fullmetal Alchemist is the best anime like Demon Slayer. To revive their deceased mother through alchemical human transmutation, the two Elric brothers fail miserably.
While Alphonse, the younger brother’s entire body, gets disintegrated, Edward, the elder one, loses his leg.
After years of training, the two brothers set off to find the philosopher’s stone that can restore their bodies to normal. Will the brothers be able to accomplish their mission?
