Starting off this list of the popular black cat cartoon characters is Butch Cat from Tom and Jerry. This alley cat is rough and roguish, and often jealous of the pampered housecat Tom. Butch is also the leader of Lightning, Topsy and Meathead, together known as the Alley Cats.
Depending on the storyline, Butch either acts as Tom’s ally, mainly to catch Jerry, or his rival, often for the attention of the beautiful housecat Toodles Galore. In the 2014 version of Tom and Jerry, Butch finds a new love interest in Dollface and flirts to get her attention.
2) Figaro (Pinocchio)
Up next is the princely tuxedo cat of Gepetto from Disney’s 1940 animated movie Pinocchio. The movie was a huge success and so were its characters, each gaining a fan following of their own. Figaro, however, caught the greatest fan of all: Walt Disney himself.
A favorite of Walt Disney, Figaro later replaces Fifi as Minnie Mouse’s pet cat. The cat is quite snarky and easy to anger, but deep down, has a big heart. While Figaro hates most things, including Cleo and Pinocchio, he comes to love the wooden boy greatly with time.
