Crunchyroll Anime Awards 2024: All Nominees and Categories

Crunchyroll Anime Awards is one of the biggest, if not the biggest, anime awards for a global audience. Every year Crunchyroll picks out the best selection of the year that have excelled in various categories. Last year was an amazing year for anime lovers with so many new and ongoing series reaching their very best. Now that the nominations have been announced, let’s take a look at all nominees and categories for Crunchyroll Anime Awards 2024:

Crunchyroll Anime Awards 2024: All Nominees and Categories

The nominations for Crunchyroll Anime Awards 2024 were announced on January 17, 2024. This was also when the portal for voting opened. There are a total of 192 nominees for 32 categories, with 6 nominations in each category. Understandably, the most important award of the year is the Anime of the Year award. The category holds some prominent titles that were expected while there have been some snubs.

Here are all the nominees for Crunchyroll Anime Awards 2024:

Anime of the Year

Anime of the Year

1) Bocchi the Rock!

One of the most wholesome music anime in recent times is Fall 2022’s Bocchi the Rock! The story revolves around a shy guitarist, Hitori “Bocchi” Gotou, who dreams of playing with a band. When she meets the bubbly drummer Nijika Ijichi, she’s asked to fill the position of guitarist in the Kessoku Band after the original guitarist, Ikuyo Kita, leaves before their first gig.

Her dream coming true, Bocchi joins the band and meets her other bandmate: the bassist Ryou Yamada. Soon, Ikuyo joins the band once again, and the girls find their music together.

2) Chainsaw Man

The much-anticipated anime adaptation of Chainsaw Man by MAPPA lived up to everyone’s high expectations. The gritty story follows a broke orphan Denji and his pet Devil Pochita. When Denji is sacrificed to a Devil by loansharks, Pochita becomes his heart so that he can keep living and fulfill his dreams, making him the eponymous Chainsaw Man.

3) Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Swordsmith Village Arc

The third season of Demon Slayer proved to be as good as its predecessors. This season is the adaptation of the Swordsmith Village Arc of the manga. In this season, Tanjiro goes to the hidden Swordsmith Village with Nezuko to repair his broken Nichirin Blade.

Demon Slayer Season 3 has two Hashira joining the main cast: the Mist Hashira Muichiro Tokita and the Love Hashira Mitsuri Kanroji. The main antagonists of this season are two Upper Moon demons: Upper Moon 4 Hantengu and Upper Moon 5 Gyokko.

4) Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2

Jujutsu Kaisen is back with another explosive season that takes the world by storm. The second season features two arcs of the manga: the Hidden Inventory Arc and the Shibuya Incident Arc. The Hidden Inventory Arc shows a flashback of Gojo’s time as a second-year student at Jujutsu High with the evil curse user Suguru Geto.

The Shibuya Incident Arc takes up the majority of this season and delivers one exceptional fight after another. This season is a must-watch for anime enthusiasts.

5) Oshi no Ko

From the writer of Kaguya Sama: Love Is War, Oshi no Ko is another masterpiece that everyone needs to check out. This drama focuses on the dark side of the idol industry and tells the story of Ai Hoshino, a popular teen idol who gets pregnant and has to deliver her children secretly.

Her doctor, Gorou Amemiya, is a big fan of her, and after his sudden death, he is reincarnated as one of Ai’s twins: Aquamarine.

6) Vinland Saga Season 2

The second season of Vinland Saga follows Einar whose life is turned upside down when English raiders invade his village. He loses his family and is captured by the raiders as a slave. He is later purchased by a slave owner named Ketil and meets Thorfinn, another slave drowned in melancholy. The two eventually become friends and work together to get their freedom back.

This season is just as great as the last season and the perfect watch for seinen lovers.

Best Ongoing Series

Best Ongoing Series

1) Attack on Titan (Attack on Titan Final Season The Final Chapters Special 1)

Attack on Titan anime finally concluded with its highly praised finale. But the one nominated in Crunchyroll Anime Awards 2024 is The Final Chapters Special 1. The one-hour-long first special of The Final Chapters shows the beginning of the Rumbling and how the remaining Survey Corps join forces with the remaining Warriors join forces to stop it.

The special ends just before the Battle of Heaven and Earth begins, leaving the conclusive battle for the second special.

2) One Piece

One Piece needs no introduction and it’s no surprise that it’s nominated yet again for the Best Ongoing Series. Even after running for 25 years, the series is still delivering peak content, evident by just how great the Wano Country Arc was.

Follow Luffy and his crew as they join forces with the Samurai, Minks, Heart Pirates, Kid Pirates, and others to defeat two Yonko, Kaido and Big Mom, and save Wano Country from the evil clutches of the Beast Pirates.

3) Spy x Family (Spy x Family Season 1 Cour 2)

The wildly beloved Spy x Family delivers yet another set of absolute hilarity and wholesomeness with the second part of its first season. As the master spy Twilight poses as the psychiatrist Loid Forger and forms a fake family with Yor Briar and Anya, he is yet to know that his new wife is secretly an assassin and his daughter a telepath. Joining their little family is their new dog Bond who has clairvoyant abilities.

4) Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba (Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Swordsmith Village Arc)

5) Jujutsu Kaisen (Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2)

6) Vinland Saga (Vinland Saga Season 2)

Best New Series

Best New Series

1) Heavenly Delusion

Spring 2023’s Heavenly Delusion is a wonderfully made sci-fi adventure anime about a dystopian world ravaged by man-eating monsters. In this gruesome environment, Kiruko and Maru are two youngsters who join each other on their quest to find the fabled Heaven, all the while battling with their inner demons and the cruelty of the world.

The premise of this anime is well-crafted with enough mystery to keep the viewers hooked and enough interesting characters to keep it out of the group of average sci-fi anime.

2) Hell’s Paradise

The future of shounen anime looks bright with new additions like Spring 2023’s Hell’s Paradise. The story follows Gabimaru the Hollow, a ninja sentenced to death who is apathetic in the face of his execution. However, every attempt at his life fails, and finally, Sagiri Yamada Asaemon, a member of the famous executioner family, is given the task of executing him.

Realizing Gabimaru won’t die, Sagiri offers him a chance to earn his freedom back by traveling to Shinsekyo island and bringing the Elixir of Life.

3) Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead

Zom 100 is a brilliantly comedic take on the zombie genre that gets the viewers hooked from the very first episode. The story follows Akira Tendou, a young man stuck in a dead-end job and depressed to the point that even a zombie apocalypse seems like a better situation than going to work again.

One day his dream comes true and he finds Tokyo filled with zombies. However, unlike most who are scared out of their minds, Akira tastes freedom for the first time in a long time.
