Jujutsu Kaisen is Gege Akutami’s best-selling and award-winning series bagging the Anime of the Year (2022) Award from the Tokyo Anime Award Festival (TAAF).
The manga is still ongoing, and we have witnessed many plot twists and stunning buffs of many characters. In this article, we will be discussing the mind-blowing and one of the most anticipated battles: Fushiguro Megumi’s General Mahoraga vs Sukuna. Let’s get right to it!

Who is Divine General Mahoraga?
Eight-Handled Sword Divergent Sila Divine General Mahoraga is the most powerful and uncontrollable shikigami of the Ten Shadows technique of the Zenin Family. Fushiguro Megumi becomes the only user in history to summon General Mahoraga.
The summoning of General Mahoraga itself has very tricky conditions:
- It can be summoned only through an exorcism ritual.
- The user must recite “With this treasure, I summon…” before shikigami’s full name.
- General Mahoraga can only be summoned without the intent to defeat it.
- Defeating General Mahoraga will not allow the user to use the Ten Shadows Technique.
- Commencing the ritual will automatically trap his opponent/opponents and himself in the ritual with the shikigami.
- The summoner will not get General Mahoraga as their shikigami even if they survive the ritual by some miracle.
- Since General Mahoraga is incontrollable, it will attack everyone in the ritual.
Considering the conditions of the ritual, Megumi summoned General Mahoraga as his last resort when he was sure he’d die anyway. Surprisingly Sukuna wanted Megumi alive for his secret plans; hence he intervened in the battle, making himself a part of the ritual. This results in the legendary battle of Mahoraga vs Sukuna in Jujutsu Kaisen.
Cursed power and Abilities:
General Mahoraga is a majestic and the most powerful shikigami of the Ten Shadows Technique. It has incredible strength and can break several concrete buildings with one blow. The combat style of General Mahoraga is extremely offensive and destructive, not to mention its intimidating physical form.
It also wields a blade called Sword of Extermination, filled with positive energy making it extremely effective against cursed spirits. What makes it invincible is the combination of its physical powers and cursed abilities such as:
- Its cursed technique can adapt to every condition or situation.
- In case an attack successfully lands on General Mahoraga, the wheel on its body activates, allowing it to counter it immediately.
- If General Mahoraga is attacked with the same technique again, it will be able to counter it precisely.
- Since it can always adapt and counter any technique, its opponent’s defense would be useless.
Who is Sukuna?
Ryomen Sukuna is the ultimate antagonist of Jujutsu Kaisen. He is a 1000 years old invincible sorcerer with two arms and two pairs of eyes and was considered an “Imaginary Demon.” He has also been titled the “King of Curses.” An army of Jujutsu sorcerers had an extremely hard time taking him down, causing countless casualties.
Even after Sukuna’s defeat, his curse was so powerful that his 20 indestructible fingers were split and sealed with powerful sorcery. Despite being sealed, his curse kept growing stronger over time, weakening the seal.
Each of his fingers was classified as a special grade cursed object that could choose its host if left unsealed. As a result, Sukuna can always reincarnate under the right circumstances.
Cursed Power and Abilities:
Sukuna has claimed multiple times that the modern-day Jujutsu Sorcerers don’t even know the true essence and full potential of Jujutsu Sorcery. His claim is indeed backed up because he always won every time he fought in the series.
He defeated Fushiguro Megumi, Jogo, Mahito, Finger bearers, General Mahoraga, etc. He has proven to be the strongest sorcerer in the series with ancient and incredible knowledge of Jujutsu sorcery.
Sukuna’s inescapable Domain Expansion, Malevolent Shrine, remains the most powerful and unbeatable throughout the series. Once he traps someone in his domain, only he can decide to let them go but at the cost of establishing a set of Binding Vows that are always in his favor.
His hand-to-hand combat skills are refined. The level of his cursed energy is by far the most powerful.
He uses flame-based attacks whose full potential or working is not yet revealed. We’ve seen that he slashes his opponents into pieces without even them realizing when it happens. It proves his incredible speed, agility, and strength.
He uses a variety of cursed techniques like:
- Reverse Cursed Technique–Â where he can heal himself and others or create lost body parts.
- Dismantle-his signature slashing attack that eyes can’t even follow.
- Cleave– an attack guaranteed to cut through anyone regardless of their cursed energy or toughness.
- Fire attack ability– as mentioned earlier, not much is revealed about this ability. However, we see him overpower Jogo, a special grade cursed spirit specializing in pyrokinesis.
- Metamorphosis– an ability where he can create multiple eyes or mouths of himself on his host.

Mahoraga vs Sukuna: Fight Explained
The incredible battle Mahoraga and Sukuna happened during Shibuya Incident Arc in Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 118. In the battle, Sukuna overwhelmingly crushed Mahoraga in his domain, Malevolent Shrine. Sukuna saved Megumi’s life by defeating Divine General Mahoraga and breaking the ritual. Now, let’s discuss the overview of this fight.Â
Sukuna charged with his flashy speed and saved Megumi from his ongoing fight with Shigemo Haruta. He immediately attacked Mahoraga with his signature attack, Dismantles, after dodging multiple attacks from the shikigami.
Before he prepared to land another attack, Mahoraga healed itself and adapted to Sukuna’s technique. This put Sukuna at a disadvantage; hence, he received multiple attacks where he was thrown through many buildings.
While those attacks, Sukuna was only inches away from getting stabbed with Sword of Extermination. Thanks to his extremely agile combat skills, he dodged the attack. He attacked the shikigami with Dismantle again, expecting it to heal itself and counter his attacks.
He admitted that he would have been defeated if Megumi had managed to summon General Mahoraga during their very first fight. Sukuna then activated his domain, Malevolent Shrine.
His domain slashes everything in his way via Cleave to spread around 200 meters. The shikigami was inflicted with countless slashes but managed to cling to its life.
After that, Sukuna used his insane pyrokinetic ability before the shikigami could adapt and finished it by incinerating. Mahoraga ended up being eradicated.
Characters who can defeat Mahoraga:
1) Sukuna (can defeat)-
Sukuna’s Malevolent Shrine remains the most powerful domain in the series after Limitless. Combined with his intelligence and insane strength, he can defeat General Mahoraga. Mahoraga, as a shikigami, lacks the intellect and tactics to defeat Sukuna.
2) Satoru Gojo (can defeat)-
We have witnessed Gojo’s cursed techniques up to only a certain extent. Based on that alone, it could be concluded that Gojo would overpower General Mahoraga. Limitless and Six Eyes‘ powers are far beyond Mahoraga. If he captures Mahoraga in Hollow Technique: Purple, the shikigami is done for.
Even without Gojo’s domain activated, it would be difficult for the shikigami to adapt to Infinity and manage to land attacks on him. Moreover, Gojo’s fighting style is long-ranged, which puts him at an advantage when combined with his cursed techniques against Mahoraga.
3) Okkotsu Yuta (may defeat)-
We all know that Yuta is deemed to end up being the strongest jujutsu sorcerer in Jujutsu Kaisen.
Yuta’s overall cursed technique is unpredictable and vast, which would be difficult for Mahoraga to adapt. He can also use multiple cursed tools and has exceptional swordsmanship. Yuta is also trained rigorously by Zenin Maki and Miguel, honing his hand-to-hand combat skills with an impenetrable defense. His cursed energy output is also positive, which means Mahoraga’s Sword of Extermination isn’t lethal to Yuta, unlike others.
Moreover, he has almost limitless access to cursed energy thanks to Orimoto Rika. So it’s safe to conclude that Yuta might be able to defeat General Mahoraga.
4) Kurusu Hana (may defeat)-
Hana’s cursed technique is mysterious, and very little is known about it. Her cursed technique can dispel any other cursed technique is all we know. By that logic, wouldn’t she be able to dispel the shikigami in the first place and even the Ten Shadows Technique? The battle would end before it even began.
On the other end, if the above isn’t the case, she should be able to dispel Mahoraga’s cursed energy completely using her cursed technique. She can also levitate/fly, giving her the advantage to dodge Mahoraga’s attacks quite easily, although we do not know of her combat skills much.
It’s difficult to conclude if General Mahoraga would be able to see through her technique and adapt. So considering these factors, Hana might be able to defeat General Mahoraga.
5) Fushiguro Toji (may defeat)-
Toji is hands down the superhuman non-curse user, assassin in Jujutsu Kaisen. He has defeated some of the most powerful special-grade sorcerers and cursed spirits. After all, he was the “Sorcerer Killer” and a legend.
If we consider Toji’s raw strength in a battle against Mahoraga, he won’t leave an opening for the shikigami to adapt to his combat skills. Before the shikigami gets any chance to adapt to his fighting techniques, Toji would ravage it.
He is also a master non-cursed tools user, meaning he can land countless unpredictable attacks using various tools on Mahoraga. Using either Playful Cloud or Inverted Spear of Heaven, we think he should be able to counter Sword of Extermination and slash through Mahoraga easily.
Because he already proved to be able to cut through the toughest-skinned special grade cursed spirit, Dagon. Overall, Toji might be able to defeat General Mahoraga.
