All of Usopp’s Lies That Came True in One Piece

Usopp is one of the members of the Straw Hat Pirates and their resident liar. Sorry, we meant sniper. The long-nosed character was introduced in the Syrup Village Arc of the Romance Dawn Saga and became the third member to join Monkey D. Luffy on his voyage. From the beginning, Usopp is established as a liar with a tendency to tell tall tales that sound impossible. But throughout the series, most of Usopp’s lies do come true. Here are all of Usopp’s lies that come true in One Piece.

If you are new to One Piece, then you’ll find a lot of spoilers in this article. So, let us issue a spoiler warning before we get to Usopp’s lies that come true.

All of Usopp’s Lies That Come True in One Piece

1) Pirates Are Attacking His Village

Pirates Are Attacking His Village

When Usopp is introduced in Chapter 24, we see him as a young man going around his village telling everyone that pirates are attacking their village. To the surprise of the newly-formed Straw Hat Pirates and us, nobody seems to take him seriously. Eventually, we learn that there is no pirate invading Syrup Village at all, it’s just Usopp telling one of his lies again.

However, in the middle of the arc, it becomes clear that the lie Usopp has told carelessly has come true. In reality, the Black Cat Pirates have been living on the island as Kaya’s caretakers for years and plan to kill her now. The confirmation that Kuro and his crew are indeed on the island is the first of Usopp’s lies that come true.

2) A Giant Goldfish Whose Excretion Is As Large As an Island

A Giant Goldfish Whose Excretion Is As Large As an Island

The sea is a mysterious place where many strange beings dwell. In One Piece, we’ve seen many weird animals living in the sea, like huge sea kings who look like different land-based animals. But even then, Usopp’s claim of a giant goldfish whose excretion is as large as a whole island feels like an exaggeration.

In Chapter 24, Usopp is telling his outlandish stories to Kaya where he mentions having fought such a huge goldfish when he was five years old. It is a lie on his part but later, it becomes one of Usopp’s lies that come true. In Little Garden, when the Straw Hats meet the giants Dorry and Brogy, they confirm the existence of the giant goldfish.

3) The Country of Dwarves

The Country of Dwarves

In the same chapter, Usopp also tells Kaya about a country where dwarves live. At that point, he’s never left his island and thus, has no way of seeing or even knowing the existence of such a country. However, unlike most of his other outlandish stories, this one is more probable.

There are many tribes in the world of One Piece and the island of giants, Elbaf, is quite well-known. So, there must also be a country of dwarves too. It turns out there indeed is as the Straw Hats meet the residents of the Tontatta Kingdom, the land of dwarves, in Dressrosa Arc.

4) He Saw a Huge Mole

He Saw a Huge Mole

In the Syrup Village Arc, when Usopp sneaks into Kaya’s estate to tell her stories and is later joined by the Straw Hats and his three underlings, they are found by Klahadore, Captain Kuro in disguise. When confronted by him, Ussop lies that he’s seen a giant mole sneaking into the mansion.

This lie comes true in the Alabasta Arc where Usopp has his first serious fight. He goes up against Miss Merry Christmas aka Drophy, a member of the Baroque Works, who’s eaten the Mogu Mogu no Mi Zoan fruit, making her a Mole Human.

5) He Chased a Cerberus

He Chased a Cerberus

Chapter 40 of One Piece has Usopp saying goodbye to his little friends where they reminisce about their time together. In the small flashback, we see young Usopp and the trio running after a dog that Usopp claimed was the Cerberus. This innocent lie comes true in the Thriller Bark Arc where Usopp and his crew encounter a real three-headed dog.

6) He Saw a Dragon

He Chased a Dragon

In the same flashback, Usopp and his gang were chasing a small lizard and Usopp claimed it was a dragon. It becomes one of Usopp’s lies that come true when the Straw Hat Pirates encounter a real dragon on Punk Hazard. Usopp later also gets to see Eastern Dragons when Kozuki Momonosuke and Kaido transform into their Zoan forms.

7) He Is a Brave Warrior of the Sea and an Expert Sniper

He Is a Brave Warrior of the Sea and an Expert Sniper

Usopp has always had a good aim since childhood, though he rarely uses it for fighting purposes. In his flashback with his friends back in the Syrup Village, Usopp is seen using a slingshot to aim at a target. When he hit the bullseye, he bragged to the trio about being a brave warrior of the sea.

Of course, this lie comes true when he sails with the Straw Hat Pirates and over time, becomes skilled enough to use his sniping skills in battles. In the Enies Lobby Arc, he even dons the alias of Sogeking, an expert sniper and brave warrior of the sea.

8) He Has Eight Thousand Followers

He Has Eight Thousand Followers

Usopp’s tall tales usually claim him as a man famous in the world for his skills and bravery. On multiple occasions, he’s claimed to have eight thousand followers, all of whom revere him. This comes true, at least to some extent, in the Dressrosa Arc where Usopp uses his sniping skills to stop Sugar and return a lot of people from their toy bodies to their real bodies.

Because of this huge contribution, he’s dubbed as God Usopp by those he’s saved. Counting all the people which include the Colosseum warriors, he’s indeed gained a lot of followers as his own.

9) He Claimed Luffy’s First 30 Million Bellies Bounty As His

He Claimed Luffy’s First 30 Million Bellies Bounty As His

When Luffy defeats Arlong, he gets his first-ever bounty of a staggering 30 million bellies. In his bounty poster, Luffy is seen with his sunny smile, but he’s not the only one in the shot. Usopp proudly claims the 30 million bellies bounty as his own as the back of his head can be seen in the background of Luffy’s poster.

However, eventually, Usopp doesn’t have to claim Luffy’s bounty as his own as he also earns his first-ever bounty of 30 million bellies after the Enies Lobby Arc as Sogeking.

10) There Are Snow Monsters on the Drum Island

There Are Snow Monsters on the Drum Island

In the Drum Island Arc, Usopp lies to his crew about the snow monsters on Drum Island. While the Straw Hats don’t find any snow monsters on Drum Island, they later encounter them on the icy side of Punk Hazard.

The Yeti Cool Brothers, Rock and Scotch, are two giants of a special tribe who work as assassins and are employed by Caeser Clown. They certainly are nothing short of snow monsters which makes it another one of Usopp’s lies that come true in One Piece.

11) He Told Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji a Beautiful Swordsman Came with Meat

He Told Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji a Beautiful Swordsman Came with Meat

In the Thriller Bark Arc, a funny scene has Usopp waking up the passed-out Monster Trio by claiming that “a beautiful swordsman has come with meat.” This works spectacularly as Sanji, Zoro, and Luffy jump up into consciousness as soon as they hear beautiful, swordsman, and meat respectively.

When this lie comes true, however, only Luffy gets to witness it. In Dressrosa Arc, Luffy meets Rebecca, a beautiful young woman who’s also a swordsman competing in the Colosseum and gives Luffy meat to eat.

Special Mention: His Lie about a Medicine That Can Cure Every Disease

His Lie about a Medicine That Can Cure Every Disease

Usopp’s father Yassop is a prolific pirate and a member of the Red Hair Pirates, leading him to abandon his family. As a result, Usopp never met his father and his mother was all he had. When she fell ill, he began to tell her exaggerated stories to entertain her. At her deathbed, a heartbroken Usopp lies to her about there being a medicine that can cure every disease in the world.

While there is no such medicine as of yet, this lie of Usopp’s has the potential to come true in the future. This lie aligns with Chopper’s dream of finding such a medicine. So, by the end of One Piece, maybe Chopper would finally fulfill his goal and invent such an all-curable medicine. Another possibility is that the Straw Hats will find this medicine on Laugh Tale. Whatever the case, this lie can come true in the future.

These are all of Usopp’s lies that come true in One Piece. This is sort of a long-running gag in the series and also one of the most exciting ones. It’s always intriguing when one of Usopp’s lies comes true as this opens so many possibilities for the future. Despite being one of the weakest characters, Usopp is an amazing character with a lot of contribution to the story and we’re looking forward to more of Usopp’s lies that come true.
