Dog Signal is a josei, slice-of-life manga series written and illustrated by Saya Miyauchi. It has been serialized in Kadokawa’s Comic Bridge since 2018. An anime adaptation by Fugaku Studios release in the Fall 2023 season, with the talented Kazuhiro Furuhashi in the director seat. Michiru Ōshima will be handling the music score.
Not much has been revealed about the details regarding the anime and the staff as of yet, but let’s go over the main themes meanwhile.
The series has quite a laidback tone sprinkled throughout. Since the main theme is pets, or more specifically dogs, the story is more focused more on the everyday wholesome and adorable moments that come with being a pet owner rather than having some fast-paced serious storytelling.

Dog Signal Anime: Story-Plot
The story follows our main character, Miyu Samura. Freshly broken up, the poor man barely has time to register his girlfriend leaving him when he realizes that she has left her pet poodle at his apartment. A pet poodle he knows absolutely nothing how to care for.
The gods may not have abandoned him completely because, luckily, he comes across an exceptional dog trainer named Shinichirō Niwa. He is willing to help, albeit in a weird way. Soon, Miyu’s indecisive life starts to change as he starts learning more about the world of animals. The road is long, but Miyu is determined to do anything to connect with his pet poodle and understand him more.
Niwa may seem intimidating at first, but as we say… You can’t really be a bad person if animals love you. Soon, he also introduces Miwa to pet groomer Ritsuka and vet Suzunosuke, who helps him on his way to becoming a dog trainer!
Dog Signal Anime: Release Date
The anime adaptation will be released in the upcoming Fall 2023 season. Although no trailer has been released as of yet, the official website and Twitter account have announced that the first episode will be airing on Sunday, October 22, 2023. The one and only Yu Takahashi will be singing the opening theme song, Setsugetsu Fūka (雪月風花, “Snow, Moon, Wind, Flowers”).
Dog Signal Anime: Where To Watch
The anime is set to premiere on NHK Educational TV and other Japanese networks. However, we are not yet aware of which streaming platform(s) will acquire the rights to stream Dog Signal online. As Crunchyroll announced the anime on its site, it’s likely that at least they will be streaming it.

Dog Signal is a Josei series, which technically means it’s aimed at adult and young adult women. Despite that, the series is definitely what you can consider “family-friendly.”
As we discussed, the series has themes of development, growth, connection, and of course, dogs. This means that it is a good series to be presented to kids. Children will find it enjoyable and learn from it at the same time.
The themes of empathy, learning to love, care, and connection are all good lessons to be learned at a tender age.
