8 Questions You Need to Know about Horimiya (In 2023)

Horimiya started as a webcomic by Hiroki Adachi who wrote and illustrated it under the penname “Hero”. It later became a manga series, and was eventually adapted as an anime, from which it gained major popularity. Hori and Miyamura captured the hearts of the viewers with their adorable high school romance with heart-pounding moments and belly-aching hilarity. This article here discusses 8 questions you need to know about Horimiya.

8 Questions You Need to Know about Horimiya

1) Who Are the Main Characters of Horimiya?

Who Are the Main Characters of Horimiya?

The two protagonists of the story are Kyoko Hori and Izumi Miyamura, two high school students whose paths never crossed despite being classmates. But when they meet outside the school environment, they discover the real persons behind the images they portray in school.

Aside from the main couple, there are Toru Ishikawa and Yuki Yoshikawa, Hori’s friends who eventually become good friends with Miyamura. There are also the student council trio: Kakeru Sengoku, Remi Ayansaki and Sakura Kouno.

Towards the middle of the story, Shuu Iura and later, Akane Yanagi join the group.

2) Is the Horimiya Story Finished?

Is the Horimiya Story Finished?

The story of the manga, Hori-san to Miyamura-kun, ended in 2021 with the group finally graduating from high school. Horimiya anime also concluded their story with the same ending. Following the light-hearted nature of the story, the main characters also cheerfully graduate from high school.

Though there are some bittersweet moments of leaving memories behind and inevitably straying apart from friends, both the last chapter and episode provide some hilarious content. Miyamura’s emotional and heartfelt monologue makes the ending a memorable one.

3) Will There Be Horimiya Season 2?

Will There Be Horimiya Season 2?

Since the original story of Horimiya is over, it is unlikely that there will be Horimiya season 2. The last episode of the Horimiya anime was sweet and compact, giving an entertaining and meaningful conclusion to Hori and Miyamura’s love story.

There could be an OVA or Special in the future, especially since the author of Horimiya released a special chapter after the manga officially ended. In the chapter, we see Hori and Miyamura after they’ve graduated from high school, and are still going strong in their relationship. The highlight of the chapter is Hori getting a new haircut where her hair is shorter, and Miyamura being smitten with it.

But a chronological season 2 might not come. But we can never be too sure of anything.

4) Why Is There No Horimiya Season 2?

Why Is There No Horimiya Season 2?

As we discussed above, the reason there is no season 2 of Horimiya is because the Horimiya anime concluded its story with the last chapter. In the original manga, the story ends with Hori and Miyamura graduating together, which was adapted as the last episode of the first season.

But there were many scenes of Hori and Miyamura which are widely beloved by fans who were disappointed to see them missing from the original anime. That’s why the studio has released Horimiya: The Missing Pieces where we see many little happenings in the main characters’ lives that strengthen their friendships and are hilarious.

5) Why Is Horimiya So Popular?

Why Is Horimiya So Popular?

Since there are a ton of romcom anime being released each season, viewers have become critical of the genre, and only the really special ones make the mark nowadays. Horimiya managed to capture the hearts of the viewers very quickly with its interesting characters and beautiful art.

The anime is short and entertaining with a dynamic pace that is more enjoyable than the drawn-out pining period of typical romcom anime. But the best thing about Horimiya is its relatability. The characters, despite their wacky personalities, are more realistic than the trope-based characters present in most romantic anime.

The relationship between Hori and Miyamura is the absolute highlight of the story. Their love story has a natural progression, and their feelings towards each other are understandable. They are teenagers who behave like teenagers, and their romance progresses just like any teenager’s romance.

That’s why it’s so popular among anime fans.

6) Why Does Sengoku Not Want to Take His Shirt Off?

Why Does Sengoku Not Want to Take His Shirt Off?

A running gag in Horimiya is Miyamura and Sengoku not wanting to take their clothes off or wear short sleeves, no matter how necessary or hot it is. While Miyamura doesn’t want to take his clothes off because of his tattoos which are forbidden in school and will surely get him suspended for some time, Sengoku has another reason altogether.

Sengoku doesn’t want to take his clothes for swimming because he’s self-conscious of his body. He’s very thin, his figure something that’ll surely get him teased by his friends and classmates. Because of this, he’ll go to any length to not have to take his clothes off, even claiming that his arm has fallen off!

7) Why Is Hori’s Dad Never Home?

Why Is Hori’s Dad Never Home?

Hori’s dad Kyosuke is one of the best characters of Horimiya. His dynamics with Hori and Miyamura respectively make up for some of the most stomach-splitting scenes of the series. He has a roguish look and personality, acting all cool before he’s put in his place by his teenage daughter.

Kyosuke’s unique relationship with Kyoko is because he’s hardly ever home, and thus has been an absent parent to both Kyoko and Souta. He’s always away because of his job, and this has created a distance between him and his children. However, Kyosuke really does love his children and care for their wellbeing. And despite acting all aggressive with Kyosuke, Kyoko also has a special place in her heart for her father.

8) Do Hori and Miyamura Get Married?

Do Hori and Miyamura Get Married?

Even though Hori and Miyamura’s relationship had been going strong since the beginning, it’s during Christmas that they really commit to each other. In an endearing scene, they propose to stay together forever, indicating they’d like to get married in the future.

And while we don’t see the promise being fulfilled in the anime, the webcomic gives us a glimpse into their future. In Chapter 140 of the webcomic, Hori-san to Miyamura-kun, it’s revealed at the end that Hori and Miyamura did indeed get married, and they have a son named Kyohei.

In that same chapter, we also see Sengoku’s daughter, most likely with Remi, named Shizuru. As Shizuru is crying after being bullied, Kyohei tells her to be happy, starting a friendship between the two.
