Last updated on February 22nd, 2022 at 12:25 pm

Jujutsu Kaisen is currently progressing with the Culling Game Arc. Only recently, our main protagonists Itadori Yuji and Fushiguro Megumi, entered the game. Akutami Gege’s series tells the story of shamans known as jujutsu sorcerers, who, gifted by cursed energy and cursed techniques, fight to survive in a world full of cursed spirits.

In the last chapter, after winning against Higuruma Hirumi, Itadori persuaded him to hand over his 100 points. On the other hand, Megumi will be fighting another player, Reggie. The Culling Game is the setting of the present arc and will highly impact the future of our characters. So if you want to clarify how exactly this play works, let’s go and learn more about it.

What is The Culling Game in Jujutsu Kaisen?

The survival of the fittest – “the Culling Game” concisely refers to the current scenario of the Jujutsu Kaisen manga. It is organized by Kenjaku to create a world of the strongest. All jujutsu sorcerers are automatically registered as players.

A barrier has been established covering 10 colonies inside Japan, people inside who have to fight each other and earn points for survival. To participate, all a character requires is to enter it. Once entered, no one can leave.

Although it is primarily meant for jujutsu sorcerers, if a civilian enters the barrier and refuses to leave at once, he/she will end up as a participant.

The Culling Game Rules Explained-

In Chapter 143, the readers were informed about the Culling Game and its rules. After which, with Master Tengen’s help, these rules were discussed one-by-one in Chapter 146. Since then, our characters have tried to deduce and explain their functioning.

By now, The Culling Game has 9 rules:

  • After awakening a cursed technique, players must declare their participation in the culling game at a barrier of their choice within 19 days.

Once awakening a cursed technique, within 19 days, players must declare their participation in the culling game at a colony of their choice.

The game had begun on October 31st of the Jujutsu Kaisen world. So, according to this rule, before November 19th, all the shamans must declare their participation and colony. However, the rules of the game make it a must to participate and difficult to refuse.

  • Any player breaking the previous rule shall be subjected to Cursed Technique Removal.

Consolidating the mandatory fulfillment of Rule 1, this rule introduces the concept of the Cursed Technique Removal. It certainly means death accompanied by the removal of the cursed technique. We aren’t aware of the procedure yet, but according to Ieiri Shoko, it probably damages players’ brains.

  • Non-players who enter the play zone will immediately become players, and they’ll be considered to have consented to participate in the culling game.

Rule 3 is particularly meant for the non-shamans. All the jujutsu sorcerers are automatically registered as participants. But a civilian entering the barrier can also become a participant. Though, those already inside the barrier will be given only one chance to leave.

  • Players score points by ending the lives of other players.

It is a simple eliminate-and-win method. The more you eliminate, the more you’ll earn. The more you earn, the more you rise to the top. Rule 4 is the central foundation of the Culling Game.

  • Points are determined by the game masters, which dictates the value of a player’s life. As a general rule, sorcerers are worth 5 points, and non-sorcerers are worth 1 point.

Game Master refers to a shikigami called Kogane, which each player will receive. It is instead an interface of the game’s program. They supervise the players’ actions. Each player is bound to be worth some points. Generally, one can crush a sorcerer to earn 5 points and wreck a non-shaman to earn 1 point.

  • Excluding the point value of a player’s own life, players may expend 100 points to negotiate with the game master to add one new rule to the Culling Game.

This rule gives the players a chance to gain the upper hand. If a player earns 100 points, he/she can create a new rule through their Kogane. Also, this rule is beneficial for Megumi. He can add a new rule which allows Tsumuki to leave the game.

  • In accordance with the previous rule, the game master must accept any proposed new rule unless it has a marked and long-lasting effect on the culling game.

An extension of Rule 6, this rule states the condition for negotiations for creating a new rule. The proposed rule should not affect the Culling Game permanently.

  • If a player’s score remains the same for 19 days, that player shall be subjected to Cursed Technique Removal.

Rule 8 bluntly testifies that crushing is inevitable. No one can survive this game without taking lives. Since entering, the only way your score can go is upwards. It won’t be allowed to remain constant. So if there is anyone whose score has remained zero or the same for 19 days, they will be eliminated.

  • Players can have access to other players’ information, such as name, points, the number of times they’ve added rules, and their colony.

The Culling Game previously had only 8 rules. Rule 9 is a precedent of Rule 6 and was added by Kashimo Hajime because he wanted to meet strong players. This rule plainly lets Kogane allow the players to check each other’s data.

What will The Culling Game’s Winner Receive?

The Culling Game will continue, and there has been no talk about a winner yet. It seems that the players are primarily motivated by the game’s Rule 1, ‘play or die.‘ The strong will continue to survive, and those who will fail to keep up with the regulations will be subjected to Cursed Technique Removal.

To escape the ruthless nature of the Culling Game, the students of Jujutsu High are readily looking for solutions. Every player is fighting to live. Meanwhile, Kenjaku as a bystander, is prepared to get the fruit for his ritual.

Will Megumi and Yuji succeed in their plan to create a new rule? Does this game have more surprises to follow? And above all, will Gojo Satoru ever be released from the Prison Realm…?
