Jujutsu Kaisen is a fairly modern shounen manga that with its complex nuances caters to not only viewers and readers of all ages it targets but its maturity with dealing with certain aspects of life can pique interests in the minds of the older audience as well.
This series delves deeper into the phenomenon called death and how to deal with the sad reality that surrounds it. The philosophy of death is explored through the protagonist, Yuji Itadori, who, unlike the nihilistic characters of this show, serves as an antithesis with a humane approach towards death and its nuances.
With the main focus delving on the strongest domain expansion in Jujutsu Kaisen let us first understand where it stems from.
This series focuses on cursed energy, the main power behind the protagonists and antagonists’ strengths, fueling their cursed techniques.
Jujutsu sorcerers are the predominant protagonists of this show who skillfully wield their cursed energy to take down countless numbers of their opponents, the cursed spirits. Jujutsu sorcerers can control this very same dark energy after a tremendous amount of perseverance and training.
Cursed energy is unique to every individual, it is a result of all the negative emotions humans harbor towards other living beings and the fear of different things in existence.
Since normal humans are not capable of controlling this cursed energy, the energy leaks out of their body and thus causes the creation of cursed spirits, who consume these negative energies for sustenance.

What Is Domain Expansion
In the world of Jujutsu Kaisen Domain Expansion, the strongest technique that can be used thanks to cursed energy, is a complete game-changer and has left most readers and viewers bamboozled when they were first introduced to it. Only special-grade spirits and extremely skilled jujutsu sorcerers can make full use of this technique.
The fundamentals surrounding this technique involve an environment constructed with cursed energy and manifested through a cursed technique. When a domain expansion is triggered by a user, a spherical aura encapsulates their opponents. Scaling the walls of a domain expansion is nearly impossible.
While in the domain, the owner’s strength is enhanced as a result of the environment, giving them access to additional techniques or improved versions of old ones. Any technique used by the owner is a guaranteed hit to their opponent.
If the expansion is incomplete and not given any technique, the function of the domain may be significantly weaker. Even though the caster’s technique never misses the opponent, the said opponent can use their own cursed energy to absorb the attack as a countermeasure.
The only viable countermeasure is to cast a domain expansion of their own, in that case, it is the stronger domain that crushes the weaker one.

Different Types of Domain Expansion
Basically there are three types of domain expansion: lethal, non-lethal and incomplete domains.

12) Chimera Shadow Garden
- User: Megumi Fushiguro
- Type: Incomplete Domain
Chimera Shadow Garden is a domain expansion cast by Megumi Fushiguro. This technique, while it is still incomplete, surrounds the entire area with thick fluid shadows. Granting the user the ability to create multiple Shikigami as well as letting the user manipulate all the shadows available.
This unique domain expansion let Megumi fake his death in battle against his opponent and let him get the better of him leading to Megumi’s victory.
Using this domain expansion gives a significant boost to Megumi’s inherent abilities thereby allowing him to create multiple Nue’s. Megumi finished his fight against the Finger Bearer by amplifying his ten shadows technique to hide in the spirit’s shadow and being able to annihilate him using Divine Dog: Totality.
11) Unnamed Domain of Smallpox Deity
- User: Smallpox Deity
- Type: Lethal Domain
Smallpox Deity is a cursed spirit proportionate to human size. The curse’s upper body is covered in light-colored hair, which covers the majority of its face and back. It has two large tusks as well as sharp teeth in its mouth. On the other end of the hair, Smallpox Deity has a tail with dark triangular designs.Â
While levitated, the tail is connected to a sphere that forms the disease curse’s lower body. In addition, Smallpox Deity has two muscular arms covered in pox bumps. Being a registered spirit, Smallpox Deity has extremely rare powers. He first appears when Geto summons it to have a battle with Mei Mei.Â
 A special grade spirit, it has the ability to use domain expansion, this particular expansion is known as the Graveyard Domain.
This particular technique can be used by crafting hand signs with their finger, instantly trapping their opponent inside. It is a graveyard-themed domain befitting the ability of the cursed spirit. Initiating the domain ensues in a certain hit to the opponent which may result in death if the conditions are fitting.Â
Another technique used by this cursed spirit is the graveyard technique. This particular ability traps the user’s opponents in a grave, by lowering the left fist into the right hand, the user summons a gravestone which crushes the grave into the ground.Â
There is a timer of 3 seconds, if after the 3 seconds the target is still in the grave, he immediately gets covered in smallpox and dies. Definitely worthy of being featured as one of the strongest domain expansions in Jujutsu Kaisen.
10) Time Cell Moon Palace
- User: Naoya Zenin
- Type: Lethal Domain
Time Cell Moon Palace is the domain expansion used by Naoya Zenin. However, he only uses his domain expansion after being turned into a vengeful spirit. Naoya’s domain works on the inherited cursed technique of the Zenin clan: Projection Sorcery, along with the barrier it creates to manifest a pocket space.
In this domain, the surroundings turn into a pitch black void with a fleshy path connecting the user and the targets. A single huge eye also appears behind the user.
Working on the same principle as Projection Sorcery, this domain is focused on the 24FPS rule. Anyone who doesn’t move as per the 24FPS rule instantly activates the auto-hit feature of the domain. Cuts and gashes begin to appear all over the target’s body if they don’t move the 24 FPS rule demands.
A terrifying feature of this domain is that it attacks each single cell of the target’s body which ultimately causes them to collapse and bleed out. Forcing a movement in this domain also causes an appendage to get decapitated.
9) Deadly Sentencing
- User: Hiromi Higuruma
- Type: Non-lethal Domain
This is the only non-lethal domain in the series. Deadly Sentencing is used by the lawyer Hiromi Higuruma who becomes a Culling Game participant and has his cursed technique awakened by Kenjaku. This domain manifests a courtroom where the user and the target stand at opposite sides.
A Shikigami called Judgeman appears behind the user and is the one who passes judgment on the target’s crimes. If the target is proven guilty, the Judgeman announces the punishment.
There are quite a few scenarios in this whole ordeal but we’ll skip them for now as this domain isn’t lethal for the target. And that is why it sits at the last position despite being an intricately designed domain.
8) Idle Death Gamble
- User: Kinji Hakari
- Type: Lethal Domain
Every domain in Jujutsu Kaisen is unique but Kinji Hakari’s domain falls almost under the ridiculous category. Named Idle Death Gamble, this domain is a mixture of the gambling game pachinko and a romance manga called Private Pure Love Train.
The domain is tremendously complicated, with the simulation of the manga playing in the background while each scenario in it decides the characters appearing on the pachinko.
However, if we have to sum it up in short, we’ll say that this domain relies heavily on the luck of the user.
Though Hakari is an expert in hand-to-hand combat and claims that he uses his skills to make his luck, that doesn’t seem to be true. In fact, such a domain would be completely useless against any strong opponent with a domain expansion. That is why he’s here at the bottom of the barrel.
7) Horizon of the Captivating Skandha
- User: Dagon
- Type: Lethal Domain
In contrast to Megumi’s Chimera Shadow Garden, the Horizon of the Captivating Skandha is rather docile, and the target is not aware of the impending strike. The opponent is stuck inside a domain where they are repeatedly struck by Shikigamis.
The domain ensures a hundred percent accuracy ensuring the opponent is totally demolished. Only a highly skilled shaman who has been trained mentally and physically is capable of withstanding the constant strikes.
It is still not known where Dagon was able to develop this expansion, but he was able to use it when he was just a cursed womb.
The expansion comes into existence when a seal forms on Dagon’s stomach thereby unleashing an environment that resembles a tropical palm beach surrounded by palm tree forests on one side of the shore and an unending ocean on the other.
Another technique used by Dagon was Death Swarm which involved him releasing a swarm of fish-like Shikigami that start attacking the target upon manifestation, and the swarm starts consuming its target.
6) Self-Embodiment of Perfection
- User: Mahito
- Type: Lethal Domain
This domain expansion is the manifestation of Mahito, one of the major antagonists of Jujutsu Kaisen who pairs up with Geto for the eradication of humanity and the replacement of cursed spirits for human beings.
He first develops this technique in a near-death experience fighting Yuji and Nanami. Death was his inspiration for being able to fully utilize this ability and magnify his powers. His domain consists of a large black environment that brings Mahito’s targets right to him in a giant hand clasped together to resemble a flower.
He can manifest this domain by using hand signs via tiny hands inside his mouth. The domain increases the effectiveness of Mahito’s Idle Transfiguration technique and makes sure to strike the soul of the target with every hit.
The only drawback to this is that he needs to touch the soul of the target every time, the only time he failed to do so was against Yuji because Sukuna is clearly more powerful than Mahito.
5) Coffin of Iron Mountain
- User: Jogo
- Type: Lethal Domain
This domain expansion is the sole technique of Jogo, a one-eyed spirit who has black teeth. The upper half of his head is a volcano that erupts when he is angered. The environment that Jogo creates when he uses this technique resembles the inside of an active volcano.
The entire surface is surrounded with lava and any normal human upon entry would immediately succumb to the soaring high temperatures inside. Iron Coffin Mountain allows Jogo to hit all his targets with full accuracy, which he eventually had to use as a precaution against Gojo’s Infinity.
4) Threefold Affliction
- User: Yorozu
- Type: Lethal Domain
Used by the Cursed Spirit Yorozu who took over the body of Tsumiki Fushiguro, Threefold Affliction is a domain expansion technique. This domain creates an empty space around the user and the opponent with nothing else but huge mushroom-like appendages floating.Â
The person enclosed in this domain by Yorozu will be surely hit by her perfect sphere. A perfect sphere theoretically cannot exist. It has no contact area, but it creates unlimited pressure because of this. According to Yorozu, if hit by the perfect sphere, the fight would be over in an instant. That means it contains immense destructive power.
However, Yorozu never gets the chance to attack Sukuna with her perfect sphere within her domain. Before she can do that, Sukuna summons Mahoraga with Megumi’s Cursed Technique and shatters Yorozu’s domain, and then kills her for good.
We put Threefold Affliction on number 4 because while Yorozu can’t hold a candle to Sukuna, she is a very powerful Cursed Spirit and her techniques will be difficult to handle for other Jujutsu Sorcerers. And given that Sukuna has to summon Mahoraga to defeat her domain, we can safely assume that it is a top-tiered domain expansion.
3) Womb Profusion
- User: Kenjaku
- Type: Lethal Domain
Kenjaku’s domain is a very unique domain expansion in Jujutsu Kaisen because unlike most domains, it does not have a barrier. There is only one other known domain with the same property: Sukuna’s Malevolent Shrine. However, unlike Sukuna’s domain, it’s not clear whether Kenjaku’s domain also has a binding vow or how much area it covers.
Kenjaku uses his Womb Profusion against Yuki Tsukumo and Tengen. His domain erects a pillar made of Cursed Spirits. The pillar looks sinister with the faces of the Cursed Spirits turned outwards. The faces of the Cursed Spirits let out powerful blasts at a certain gesture of Kenjaku’s hands.
The blast of the pillar is very destructive, capable of lethally injuring the target and throwing them off. Even a Special Grade Jujutsu Sorcerer like Yuki can’t match its power. And that is evidence enough of its strength and why it is at number 3.
Another thing it has in its favor is its lack of a barrier. As Sukuna demonstrated in the recent chapter, a barrierless domain has a certain advantage that makes them so powerful.
2) Unlimited Void
- User: Satoru Gojo
- Type: Lethal Domain
Unlimited Void is the one of the strongest domain expansion seen so far in Jujutsu Kaisen. It is wielded by our very cool sensei, Satoru Gojo. He is not only the coolest mentor to Yuji and the strongest sensei to grace TMCT College but also the most powerful living sorcerer in existence.
We see him using it for the first time against Jogo’s Coffin of the Iron Mountain and he dispelled Jogo’s domain in mere seconds. The environment this domain creates is a literal void that takes its target to the very center of the universe.
Being introduced to never-ending information, the target sees and feels everything while not seeing and feeling everything at the same time, petrifying the target with the ultimate knowledge and slowly faces eventual death.
Only the caster and the person they touch are not affected by it. While cursed spirits can still survive in the domain for a definite period of time, a normal human would succumb much faster as 2 seconds in the domain is equivalent to 2 months outside the domain. Which makes it the Strongest Domain Expansion to ever exist.
1) Malevolent Shrine
- User: Ryomen Sukuna
- Type: Lethal Domain
Malevolent Shrine is the domain expansion of Ryomen Sukuna, a legendary cursed spirit who hails the epithet of King of Curses. He is considered to be the biggest threat in Jujutsu Kaisen, currently residing in the body of our protagonist, Yuji Itadori.
The environment of this expansion takes the form of a Buddhist Shrine that has been disheveled to enshrine Sukuna. It first appeared when Sukuna used it against a Finger Bearer.
The shrine is roofed with horns which have skulls hanging at every corner. With bull-shaped skulls hanging out of the mouth of every side.
This technique is different from other domain expansions as it does not create a separate space with a barrier. Due to this and other factors, it is known as a divine technique because it has the ability to realize one’s inner domain without a barrier. A binding vow is formed by allowing an escape route.
The effective area of impact is 200m which can be narrowed down to 140m for more accurate results. Sukuna can dismantle the shrine at his will to unleash a barrage of attacks on anyone within the radius. Making Sukuna the number one antagonist to have the strongest domain expansion in Jujutsu Kaisen.
That was all the domain expansions in Jujutsu Kaisen. Many powerful characters like Yuta, Kusakabe and Kashima are yet to demonstrate any domain expansions. Hopefully we’ll get to see them as the story progresses.
