Last updated on December 16th, 2023 at 08:09 pm

Jujutsu Kaisen has gained immense popularity, especially after its anime was released last year. Now we are at the point where the fandom is hungry for more seasons and episodes. Season 2 is currently airing and fans are losing their minds over the back-to-back epic high-tension episodes. Meanwhile, amidst all this, Gege Akutami refuses to cease the chaos uproaring in its manga world.

Since the beginning of the series, a great number of characters have been sacrificed, including those who are fan-favorite. The Shibuya Incident Arc recorded a significant number of losses and reckoning; we can say that it was just the beginning.

Jujutsu Kaisen world is set up in a universe where humans endangering Cursed Spirits or Curses exist in the world. A minority population born with cursed energy has the ability to exorcise these curses. So, they end up becoming Jujutsu Sorcerers. It is a perfectly created world for a Shonen action-fantasy series, consisting of a destined protagonist, powerful heroes, antagonists, jujutsu, and curses. Therefore, the characters are constantly surrounded by life-and-death situations.

Here in this article, we are going to talk about the top 15+ most emotional deaths in Jujutsu Kaisen that have occurred till now. So sit back, and let’s take a look at them one by one.

(Spoiler Alert Warning: This article contains spoilers for the Jujutsu Kaisen anime. Anime viewers are requested to proceed at their own risk).

Top 15+ Most Emotional Jujutsu Kaisen Deaths (Manga series)

17) Jogo

Jogo

It’s unusual for the deaths of antagonists to be emotional in most anime but Jogo is one of the exceptions of that. He was an unregistered Special Grade cursed spirit, born from people’s fear of volcanic eruptions. The curse had a strong hatred for humanity and wanted curses to dominate the world.

Jogo might have been a villain but he had always been loyal to his companions and his species in general. He died after fighting Sukuna in Shibuya. In his last moments, he was overwhelmed by Sukuna acknowledging him as strong and thought about his companions with his last breath.

16) Misato Kuroi

Misato Kuroi

In Gojo’s Past Arc, we get to see Satoru Gojo in his school days. In their second year, he and Suguru Geto were given a mission to accompany Riko Amanai to Tokyo Jujutsu High. During their mission, they also met Misato Kuroi, the girl’s maid and caretaker.

The entire arc was very sad and it became sadder when Kuroi also died. She died offscreen at the hands of Toji Fushiguro but the idea of it is just as sad. Kuroi was the only thing similar to a mother to Riko and they considered each other family.

15) Cursed Womb: Death Painting brothers- Eso and Kechizu

Eso and Kechizu

Two of the Cursed Womb: Death Painting brothers, Eso and Kechizu, were the antagonists of the Death Painting Arc. Reaching Yasohachi Bridge, they fought Nobara Kugisaki and Yuji Itadori and lost their lives.

Their deaths looked pitiful as parallel to the fights we come to sympathize with the love between the siblings. As Kechizu downs, Eso sorrowfully and regretfully tries to escape in a truck but, he too is eliminated by Nobara. Their deaths are then sensed by Choso.

14) Nagi Yoshino

Yoshino Nagi

A cheerful and lively woman, Nagi Yoshino was a loving parent and only family to Junpei Yoshino. In the series, she appeared after Junpei befriends Yuji and she invited him to dinner. After what looked like a satisfying, calm, and happy gathering as well as bonding, Yuji left, and a cursed spirit attacked Nagi.

This unanticipated scene was saddening. The cursed spirit was attracted to Sukuna’s finger, which Mahito planted in Nagi’s house. Ruining Junpei’s happy family was a part of Mahito’s cunning plan, and Nagi was innocently dragged into this.

13) Nanako and Mimiko Hasaba

Nanako and Mimiko Hasaba

The two sisters, Nanako Hasaba and Mimiko Hasaba were antagonist characters. But their deaths were hurtful if we consider their innocent and naïve intentions.

They were driven out of their village for possessing cursed energy. Since Suguru Geto took them in and became a beloved father figure to them, they wanted to defeat Pseudo-Geto and retrieve his dead body.

During the Shibuya Incident Arc, their plan was to help Sukuna by bringing his fingers and asking him for help in return. But only to their misfortune, after getting his fingers, Sukuna made them his first casualty.

12) Yu Haibara

Yu Haibara

Another painful death that occurred in Gojo’s Past Arc is Yu Haibara. He was a student at Tokyo Jujutsu High and Kento Nanami’s classmate and friend. That also made him an underclassman of Gojo, Geto, and Ieiri.

Haibara was an energetic and cheerful young man with a strong sense of justice. He also had a friendly and kind personality, similar to Yuji’s. He died in his second year when he and Nanami were away on a mission.

Nanami and Geto took Haibara’s death very hard and it motivated Nanami to leave the jujutsu world after graduation and increased Geto’s hatred towards non-curse users, prompting his mass assassination later.

11) Tsumiki Fushiguro

Tsumiki Fushiguro

Megumi Fushiguro has always been a very serious guy for his age but the only person he seemed to love and care for wholeheartedly was his older step-sister Tsumiki Fushiguro. At one point in the past, Toji married Tsumiki’s mother but eventually abandoned them. Tsumiki’s mom also ran off at some point, leaving the two kids behind.

The tragic end of Tsumiki came when Kenjaku initiated the Culling Game and the ancient sorcerer Yorozu was incarnated in her body. Yorozu and Sukuna fought and the latter inevitably defeated her and killed her, killing Tsumiki in the process too.

Her death was a shock to Megumi and the grief made him so hollow that it gave Sukuna the chance to completely take over his body without resistance. Megumi’s reaction makes it one of the most emotional Jujutsu Kaisen deaths.

10) Yuki Tsukumo

Yuki Tsukumo

Yuki Tsukumo was one of the four Special Grade jujutsu sorcerers and one of the strongest characters in Jujutsu Kaisen. She never took many missions because she didn’t agree with the higher-ups of the jujutsu world and had a different motivation. Yuki wanted to eradicate all curses from the world so that jujutsu sorcerers wouldn’t have to die in vain any longer.

Her end came after her fight against Kenjaku at the Tokyo Jujutsu High. Yuki and Choso both fought Kenjaku but they ultimately lost. While Choso survived, Yuki was grotesquely wounded and died.

9) Toji Fushiguro

Toji Fushiguro

Toji Fushiguro was once a member of the Zenin clan and also Megumi’s Fushiguro father. He was the main antagonist of Gojo’s Past Arc. His initial appearance had hinted at him as a money-minded person. For the money, he assassinated Riko.

After a violent clash with Gojo, he revealed that his son would soon be sold off to the Zenin clan before dying. He told Gojo that he could do whatever he wanted with this information. This revealed to us a bigger picture of his personality.

Somewhere, Toji was a caring father who didn’t want Megumi to be sold to the cruel Zenin clan. In his last moments, sensing the mere possibility that his adversary could save his son, he took a chance at it. It was a soul-stirring and emotional scene to see a father failing to get back to his son.

8) Masamichi Yaga

Masamichi Yaga

Masamichi Yaga was Tokyo Jujutsu High’s principal. Gakuganji was ordered by the higher-ups to push Yaga into revealing the method of creating independent cursed corpses. Yaga refused to speak any word of it; when taking his last breath he blurted out every information in order to curse Gakuganji.

Masamichi Yaga was a character for whom fans still have a soft spot. He was a good teacher always thinking of his students and also a good person. His cursed technique had allowed him to build for himself a family of stuffed toys and his son Panda. And no one can deny how precious and innocent existence they are.

7) Geto Suguru

Geto Suguru

Suguru Geto was once Gojo Satoru’s comrade and best friend, who studied at Jujutsu Tech with him. His role took a villainous turn when he came off the perception that non-shamans needed to be eliminated for the betterment of the world.

Geto breathes his last in the Jujutsu Kaisen 0: Jujutsu High manga. Defeated by Yuta Okkotsu, Geto’s life is ended by Gojo. The short but final conversation between the two friends was deeply sentimental. Despite having separate beliefs, the two were on a good note with each other. Seeing them share the same affection towards the bond between them was nostalgic.

6) Riko Amanai

Riko Amanai

Riko Amanai was a young girl who was a Star Plasma Vessel meant to fuse with Master Tengen. In Gojo’s Past Arc, Gojo and Geto were allotted the task of escorting her safely.

In a short while, readers had built an attachment to Riko’s outspoken and innocent personality. She had even befriended her two temporary bodyguards, who were also making every effort to protect her.

But despite that, they fail to stop Toji Fushiguro, who assassinates her for a bounty from the Time Vessel Association. Seeing the efforts of our main characters turning into dust and such a bright character losing her life was desponding and disheartening.

5) Mai Zenin

Zenin Mai

Mai Zenin was a student at Kyoto Jujutsu High, and she was Maki Zenin‘s twin sister. Of the two twins, she was the only one who possessed cursed energy.

The two sisters were beaten up, injured by their father, and thrown into a room where they could be crushed by numerous cursed spirits caged there. In order to save Maki, Mai took her life, releasing all the cursed energy between them.

Mai’s death was another unforeseen death flag as still a young and vivid character; many were looking forward to her growth and success.

4) Kokichi Muta

Mechamaru

Kokichi Muta was a student at Kyoto Jujutsu High and was known by the name Ultimate Mechamaru. His original body had Heavenly Restriction placed on it, so it was damaged. He was able to live in the outside world through the machine body of Mechamaru.

He had made a deal with Mahito to act as a spy for him in exchange for Mahito would cure him using his Idle Transfiguration Technique and restrain him from hurting his friends.

Later he double-crossed Mahito. But in rash combat with him, Kokichi lost his life. He had formed an attachment with his schoolmates, especially Kasumi Miwa, and wanted to go back to them in his original human form. But his wish remained incomplete.

3) Yoshino Junpei

Yoshino Junpei

Yoshino Junpei was a young high-schooler. A casualty of bullying and loneliness, he was filled with feelings of dejection and disgust towards society. This only led him to become an easy target for Mahito’s manipulation and fake empathy.

His death was one of the most heartbreaking ones. The boy wanted to be saved and just needed a place to belong. Yuji, his first and only friend, made him realize his true self and bring him back. However, it was too late, and Mahito used his Idle Transfiguration Technique and deformed him to death in a playful manner.

2) Kento Nanami

Kento Nanami

This death in this list of Jujutsu Kaisen deaths was excruciating for fans. Nanami Kento had, since his first appearance, accumulated a considerable fanbase. His tsundere to serious to a fun personality and his cool fighting styles are still loved.

But sadly, during the Shibuya Incident Arc, we lost him. In a beaten-up state, Nanami’s inner thoughts were revealed. He had been regretful and guilt-ridden for failing to save his first-year friend Haibara during his student life.

Throughout his last fights and struggles, he kept strengthening himself by keeping Haibara’s determination as a sorcerer in mind.

It was lamentable to see him getting transfigured by Mahito. He smilingly addressed his last words to Yuji that his time was over and now Yuji could take it from where he was leaving.

1) Satoru Gojo

Satoru Gojo

The most emotional and shocking death of Jujutsu Kaisen is none other than the death of Satoru Gojo, the strongest jujutsu sorcerer of modern times. He was a Special Grade sorcerer and the teacher of the first-years at Tokyo Jujutsu High.

After being released from the Prison Realm, Gojo challenged Sukuna to a fight in Shinjuku on Christmas Eve. Their fight was the grandest fight of the series as of yet. After a long and thrilling fight, Gojo was ultimately killed, leaving Sukuna to be the winner and the definitive strongest character in Jujutsu Kaisen.

It’s redundant to reiterate how shocking Gojo’s death was to the fandom. He was a fan-favorite character and the characters fans were rooting for the most. Gojo had also always been the strongest character in the series, so to see him die was very painful for fans. His scenes with Geto and his other fallen comrades are just as painful and emotional and didn’t fail to make fans cry.

Deaths that have appeared in the Jujutsu Kaisen series seem to be only a start. We are surely going to see more painful and emotional demises in the further chapters.

So let’s calm down and brace ourselves up for the upcoming episodes. Keep watching Season 2 of the anime on Crunchyroll and read the manga on Viz.
