Jujutsu Kaisen’s Culling Game Arc has been introducing us to new characters one after the other. One such character is Hakari Kinji, whose appearance was teased since Gojo Satoru mentioned him to be as powerful as Okkotsu Yuta. He is also recognized as one of the infamous suspended third-year students.
Finally, in Chapter 153, Akutami Gege got the chance to give him a suitable entrance. With the entire world in danger due to Kenjaku‘s Culling Game, our prominent sorcerers requested Hakari Kinji and his partner Hoshi Kirara to join them.

Power of Kinji Hakari in Jujutsu Kaisen-
Alongside Okkotsu Yuta, Hakari Kinji is considered to be one of the strongest jujutsu sorcerer students. But unfortunately, his status is now of a suspended third-year together with Hoshi Kirara, his girlfriend.
Apparently, according to them, their modern methods and application of sorcery were not accepted by the conventional jujutsu regulations. Hakari had clashed with a conventional higher-up and violated the rules. The second-year Okkotsu Yuta has acknowledged Hakari to be stronger than him. But he has also hinted that probably his capricious nature is his only drawback.
Chapter 155Â proffers us a glimpse of what Hakari is capable of. His power lies in his hand-to-hand combat skills. We need to be mindful that we are still yet to know more about his jujutsu techniques. Disappointed at Yuji’s answer for what drove ‘passion,’ Hakari kicked and punched him such that each had a booming impact. Cursed Technique of Kinji Hakari in Jujutsu Kaisen-Â
Currently, the series hasn’t unveiled the name of Kinji Hakari’s Cursed Technique. However, below we have discussed his cursed technique based on various fans’ discussions.
In chapter 155, Hakari was seen using what readers identified as the Japanese Tatami mats. Two of these were made to appear and restrain his opponent’s movements. He used this power twice. At first, the mats appeared on Yuji’s either side, falling to the ground, then they closed up as if shutting a gate beneath Yuji’s feet. That move probably limited his foot movements, then it was followed by a knee-kick.
Then the second time, as if imitating the guillotine apparatus, Yuji’s wrists and neck were pinned between two mats. This gave Hakari a convenient chance to punch his face.
According to many fan theories, the use of Tatami mats was only an extension of his main Cursed Technique. This seemed to have fanned because of Akutami Gege’s interview with Fuji TV‘s Mando Kobayashi, which had taken place earlier this year.
During this, he had hinted that Hakari’s power is related to his name, which factually translates to ‘scales.’ Now, what could be the relation between what looked like Tatami mats and these ‘scales’? It is a question that can only be answered by our author in the upcoming chapters.
Abilities of Kinji Hakari in Jujutsu Kaisen-Â
1. Quick reflexes and agility –
Hakari is quick and swift with his attacks. In a blink of an eye, his first attack had caught Yuji off-guard. Just as Yuji was about to explain, Hakari threw the glass of alcohol at him. The next moment we know, again he introduced Tatami mats, confining Yuji’s movements and kept throwing kicks or punches with agility.
2. Physical strength –
With his well-built muscular body and hand-to-hand combat being his central fighting stance, Kinji is capable of hitting bone-damaging blows. Although Yuji was intentionally on the defensive, his honest reaction to their impact was finding a punch worth a baseball bat with sharp cutting edges.
3. Sharpness –
Since the time Yuji had entered the fighting ground, Hakari was suspicious of him. He was quick to notice his behavior and his act of intentionally drawing attention. Having a conversation with him, he was quite certain that Yuji had other plans rather than the fight club.
Although Yuji lacks talent in lying, he has been doing a pretty good job. But in front of Hakari, it couldn’t last long. Kirara did not even fully inform him about the infiltrators, but one missed call from her, and Hakari was sure that Yuji was from Jujutsu High.
4. Quick reasoning and formulation –
Getting updates on most of the present affairs of the Jujutsu world from Panda, Fushiguro Megumi, and Itadori Yuji, in chapter 160, Hakari hypothetically planned each member’s activity. He told Megumi and Yuji to handle Higuruma Hiromi, Angel to Panda, since he has a good sense of smell and gave Kirara the job to supervise from outside the barrier since cellphones won’t work. Finally, he has left Kashimo Hajime, a sorcerer from 400 years ago, to himself.
We are still left to learn and ensure more about Hakari’s Cursed Techniques. The series is yet to give a formal explanation. Till then, we fans will have to allow ourselves to get teased and have fun guessing what is planned, based on the hints author is dropping.
