How Strong Is Jogo? Sukuna vs. Jogo: Explained In Jujutsu Kaisen

The responsibility of a jujutsu sorcerer is to exorcize cursed spirits and protect normal humans from them. However, when the cursed spirit is as strong as Jogo, things become more complicated than that. One of the cursed spirits allied with Kenjaku, Jogo is a major antagonist in the story. In this article, we’ll be discussing how strong Jogo is in Jujutsu Kaisen.

This article contains some information about Jogo and his powers that are yet to appear in the anime. So, if you’re not a manga reader and watch only the anime instead, a spoiler alert is delivered to you. Read further only if you don’t mind the spoilers. So, now that that’s out of the way, let’s begin our discussion on how strong Jogo is in Jujutsu Kaisen.

How Strong Is Jogo in Jujutsu Kaisen?

How Strong Is Jogo in Jujutsu Kaisen?

Jogo is an unregistered Special Grade cursed spirit which means he’s far stronger than ordinary cursed spirits. He is born out of humanity’s natural fear of volcanoes. This primal fear has caused him to become an exceptionally powerful cursed spirit, even among Special Grades.

According to Kenjaku, Jogo’s strength is almost equal to that of the eight or nine fingers of Sukuna. This particular statement is never proved but Jogo does fight Sukuna in the Shibuya Incident Arc and is commended by the King of Curses for his strength.

In the same arc, Nanami and the members of the Zenin family comment that Jogo is stronger than Dagon. However, he is clearly weaker than Mahito as he thinks of him as their leader. Jogo, despite being very strong, is no match against overwhelmingly powerful individuals like Sukuna and Satoru Gojo.

Jogo possesses the following powers in Jujutsu Kaisen:

Cursed Energy Reserve

As a Special Grade cursed spirit, Jogo possesses an incredible amount of cursed energy. His cursed energy is so vast and potent that non-curse users can combust into flames in his presence when he activates his cursed technique. Jujutsu sorcerers can classify Jogo as a Special Grade cursed spirit just from sensing his cursed energy.

Innate Cursed Technique

Innate Cursed Technique

The exact name of Jogo’s innate cursed technique is unknown but it is a fire and volcano-based technique. Thanks to his cursed technique, Jogo can manifest and manipulate powerful flames infused with cursed energy. The flames are extremely dangerous even for strong jujutsu sorcerers like Nanami, Maki, and Naobito Zenin.

Along with flames, Jogo can also shoot heat from his body and create small volcanic eruptions from the environment. The small volcanoes combust into powerful flames capable of burning anything and everything around them.

Ember Insects

A variation of Jogo’s innate cursed technique is Ember Insects. With this technique, Jogo summons several cursed insects from the volcano on his head. The insects are pretty big in size and have large stingers. When the stingers make contact, they make a loud noise before combusting into explosions.

While this technique won’t work against Gojo, thanks to his Infinity, it can be quite deadly for other jujutsu sorcerers.

Maximum: Meteor

Maximum: Meteor

Other than domain expansion, Maximum: Meteor is Jogo’s strongest tool in his arsenal. In this technique, the cursed spirit manifests a huge and powerful flaming meteor before throwing it towards his target. The resultant explosion from the meteor is huge and destroys everything around it. The meteor that Jogo targets toward Sukuna demolishes a huge part of Shibuya.

However, while Maximum: Meteor is very powerful and destructive and can significantly harm even the likes of Sukuna, it’s not impossible to avoid the attack. Sukuna shows that he can easily dodge the attack which makes it completely pointless for Jogo to implement it in the first place. No matter how much damage it causes, if it can’t touch the target, then it’s useless.

Domain Amplification

Domain Amplification

Another very effective technique Jogo is capable of using is Domain Amplification. This technique is almost like the negative of Domain Expansion. The role of Domain Amplification of more negation than amplification.

In Domain Amplification, the cursed energy of the user creates a barrier that envelops the user. The barrier is capable of neutralizing any and all cursed techniques it touches, including Domain Expansion.

This technique is extremely useful against an opponent like Gojo whose Infinity makes it impossible to land a physical blow on him. With Domain Amplification, Jogo neutralizes Gojo’s Infinity to finally land a blow on him.

Domain Expansion: Coffin of the Iron Mountain

Domain Expansion: Coffin of the Iron Mountain

For any curse user, there is no greater weapon than their Domain Expansion. Being a Special Grade cursed spirit, Jogo possesses an extraordinarily strong Domain. The name of his Domain Expansion is Coffin of the Iron Mountain. With his Domain, Jogo manifests an enclosed space surrounded by a barrier that is infused with his innate cursed technique.

The Coffin of the Iron Mountain takes the shape of the inside of a volcano where Jogo can manipulate the stones and the lava at his will. The inside of the domain is hot enough to burn any average jujutsu sorcerer and cursed spirit alive. Coupled with the sure-hit effect of the Domains, it’s a deadly combination.

But in spite of being a very strong Domain, the Coffin of the Iron Mountain doesn’t stand a chance against the Domains of individuals like Gojo and Sukuna. It’s still a fearsome power nonetheless.

The last fight of Jogo’s life is against Sukuna during the Shibuya Incident Arc. Jogo, who prides himself on being a cursed spirit and believes their kind to be superior to humans, wants to bring back the King of Curses: Ryomen Sukuna. To achieve that, he force-feeds Yuji Itadori ten of Sukuna’s fingers, causing Sukuna to take control of Yuji’s body.

When Sukuna finally emerges, he makes it very clear that he’s way above the likes of Jogo. During their fight, Jogo uses almost everything in his arsenal but his Domain Expansion, knowing that there is no way he can win against Sukuna in a battle of Domains. He is mocked by Sukuna who calls him weak.

Sukuna effortlessly counters everything Jogo throws at him, including Maximum: Meteor, and overpowers him countless times. And he does all of these without even using his own cursed technique. In the end, he ironically uses an unnamed fire-based cursed technique that takes the shape of a flaming arrow that burns Jogo alive.

This is where we conclude our discussion on how strong Jogo is in Jujutsu Kaisen. He is a major antagonist in the Shibuya Incident Arc. Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 has adapted the arc and is currently airing on Crunchyroll.
