Black Clover is a manga series written and illustrated by Yuki Tabata. The story is built around Asta, a young boy who is apparently born without any magic power. It has been serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump since February 2015.
Black Clover consists of a diverse set of characters. The characters in the series are unique in their own way, and each has its own abilities and powers. 26) Dorothy Unsworth
Dorothy is also one of the Magic Knights Captain of the Clover Kingdom who hails from the Witches’ Forest. Although she may appear meek and fragile at times, the elf Reve resides in her body.
It gives an additional boost to her already powerful Dream Magic. This incredibly powerful magic can trap people in a dream-like world with their thoughts being manifested there. There is no doubt that she is one of the most powerful characters in Black Clover.
25) Rill Boismortier
Rill Boismortier, the youngest Magic Knights Captain, is one of the strongest characters in Black Clover. With the help of elf Lira and under Heart Kingdom training, he has exponentially gained this magic. His unique Painting Magic allows him to manipulate his drawings at will and bring them to life.
Rill’s techniques are very similar to Sai from Naruto. Rill is not only the youngest Magic Knights Captain but also the most cool-headed one, which is quite ironic in itself. He also has Transformation Magic in his store, which can help him to get out of tricky situations.
24) Charmy Pappitson
Charmy is a 1st Class Junior Magic Knight of the Clover Kingdom’s Black Bull Squad. She is able to perform Cotton Magic, Creation Magic, Restraining Magic, Food Magic, and Reinforcement Magic. She has large levels of mana depending on her mood.
In addition to this, she has two mana affinities since she is a hybrid. She is not an ordinary mage. Her grimoire contains various cotton and food-based magic spells.
She manages to come in the 24th place because she is from an ancient Dwarf species, and in her original form, her magic changes to food magic, where she summons a giant wolf with a fork and knife who eats the opponent’s magic. During the Elf Reincarnation Arc, she ate all of Rill’s paintings.Â
23) Charlotte Roselei
Charlotte is the captain of the Clover Kingdom’s Blue Rose squad of the Magic Knights. Her magic consists of Briar Magic, True Briar Magic, Creation Magic, and Reinforcement Magic.
She possesses immense magic power despite her curse hampering her real magical strength. She can also increase the range and scale of her Briar Magic, placing her in 23rd place on this list.
22) Jack the Ripper
Jack is the captain of the Clover Kingdom’s Green Mantis squad of the Magic Knights. His Magic consists of Slash Magic and Reinforcement Magic. He has enhanced strength and speed in addition to his huge amount of magic power.
His three-leaf grimoire contains various slash-based spells. He makes his way to the 22nd place in the rankings. Also, during the battle against Dante, he surpassed his limits and awakened the blades from all body parts, which cuts even the gravity magic.Â
21) Nozel Silva
Being one of the Magic Knights Captain in the Clover Kingdom, Nozel Silva is undoubtedly one of the most powerful characters in this series. He has done justice to his royal Silva bloodline by taking out powerful mages one after the other.
His arrogance is matched by his superior Mercury Magic, which can subdue even the strongest of foes. Silver Rain is one of his powerful moves leaving the enemy no room for escape. During the fight with Megula, he surpassed his limits.Â
20) Dark Elf Patolli
Patolli is the leader of the Eye of the Midnight Sun under the name and appearance of Licht. He uses Demon Light Magic to manipulate black light and blind his opponents or move at remarkable speed. It is faster, stronger, and denser than Light Magic.
Some of his moves include Light Sword of Judgement, Light Shaft of Divine Punishment, and Bright Judgement Whip. In addition to this, he can perform healing magic, creation magic, reincarnation magic, and union magic.
He had a five-leaf clover grimoire that was taken by Zagred. Thus, he takes the 20th position in this ranking.
19) Lolopechka x Undine
Lolopechka, the queen of the heart kingdom who uses water magic, is one of the strongest characters in Black Clover. She is the priestess of Undine who was cursed by Megicula. Lolopechka’s power is shown when she fights Vanica Zogratis after their infiltration into the spade kingdom and also takes on Megicula.
Lolopechka can use a combination of three different forms of magic:Â water magic, healing magic, and spirit magic. Additionally, she has huge mana reserves being the priestess. She rightfully takes the 19th spot on this list.
18) William Vangence
William, the first captain of the Clover Kingdom’s Golden Dawn squad, is one of the strongest characters in Black Clover. His Magic comprises World Tree Magic, Healing Magic, and Union Magic.
With his insane amount of magic power, he can create a hole in the sky and summon tree roots. His three-leaf clover grimoire contains various world tree-based spells, making him the 18th most powerful character.
17) Fuegoleon Vermillion
Fuegoleon is the captain of the Crimson Lion squad of the Magic Knights. His main ability is his Fire Magic, in addition to Creation Magic, Restraining Magic, Spirit Magic, and Reinforcement Magic.
He is a master tactician who can create immense pressure in the surroundings by manifesting a large lion from his magic power. His grimoire contains fire-based magic spells. This makes him the 17th most powerful character in Black Clover. After gaining the fire spirit, Salamander, he has reached near Mereoleona’s level.Â
16) Witch Queen
The Witch Queen is the ruler of the Witches’ Forest and the mother of all witches. She can perform Blood Magic, Healing magic, and Creation Magic. She also has the ability to control a flock of birds and sense mana from her surroundings.
She can foresee the future and possesses a three-leaf clover grimoire containing various blood-based spells. Thus, she comes in 16th place in the rankings.
15) Ancient Demons
Ancient Demons are giant creatures that possess phenomenal strength and magic power. Born with people’s hatred and capable of shooting magical beams, these Ancient demons are one of the most powerful characters in Black Clover. Only a handful of characters can defeat them.
Elf spirits and demons have given some characters an upper hand over the others, and these ancient demons really are one of the most powerful characters and claim the 15th position.
14) Lilith & Naamah (Fusion)
Lilith is one of the highest-ranking devils connected to the Tree of Qliphoth. It resides on the first level of the underworld. Lilith uses Ice Magic to generate and manipulate ice. It has immense magic power greater than that of the Dark Triad.
We saw Lilith’s prowess when it attacked Jack the Ripper, sending him crashing into a wall and then freezing him to it.
Naamah is another one of the highest-ranking devils connected to the Tree of Qliphoth. It resides on the first level of the underworld like Lilith. Naamah uses Fire Magic to generate and manipulate fire. It also has immense magic power greater than that of the Dark Triad.
13) Adrammelech
Adrammech has been a revelation in terms of power. While the exact nature of his magic is yet to be revealed, however, he was strong enough to float and fly even under the influence of Lucifero’s gravity magic.
One of the oldest devils and the highest ranking in the Tree of Qliphoth, Aldrammelech looks down upon humans. He is working under Lucius (the fourth Zogratis), that’s why he did not save Lucifero. Being the second gate devil, he is far more powerful than Lilith and Naamah.Â
12) Mereoleona Vermillion
Mereoleona was the temporary captain of the Crimson Lion Squad and the Royal Knights squad. Her Magic includes Fire Magic and Reinforcement Magic. She is a master of hand-to-hand combat and prefers it in most cases. She has immense strength and speed along with enhanced skill in sensing mana.
She can also control the mana in an area to increase her spells’ power and range. Her three-leaf clover grimoire contains various fire-based magic spells. It is a surprise that she takes 12th place on this list, even above Adrammelch.
11) Lemiel Silvamillion Clover
The man who began it all. Lemiel is the first Magic Emperor of the Clover Kingdom’s Magic Knight Squads. He specializes in Light Magic. Some of his Light Magic moves include Lamp of Avior, Light arrow Spell, Light Sword Spell, and Lamp of Avior Gloria.
He can combine his Light Magic with Licht’s Sword Magic to perform Union Magic. He is also an expert craftsman who can create a variety of tools with various effects. His four-leaf clover grimoire contains various light-based spells. This makes him the 11th most powerful character in Black Clover.
10) Yami Sukehiro
Yami is the first captain of the Clover Kingdom’s Black Bull Squad of the Magic Knights. He specializes in Dark Magic along with Reinforcement Magic and Restraining Magic.
On top of that, he is a skilled swordsman and has immense durability and speed. He lost his heart which makes him a possible devil host in the future that will greatly amplify his power.
He also possesses Ki, a principle originating from his homeland that gives him a sixth sense to perceive and react to unseen attacks and persons. He carries a Katana and a three-leaf clover grimoire that contains darkness-based spells. On that note, he takes 10th place on this list.
9) Licht
Licht is the leader of the Elf Tribe and of the ten Apostles of Sephirah. He specializes in Sword Magic which allows him to generate swords. He can also use Union Magic, Reinforcement Magic, and Forbidden Magic.
On top of that, he is a master swordsman with immense speed and magic power. His Ultimate Magic allows him to produce incredibly powerful spells. He carries three swords and his four-leaf clover grimoire that contains various sword-based magic spells. Thus, he manages to take 8th place on this list.
8) Lucifugus
Lucifugus is one of the highest-ranking devils in the Tree of Qliphoth and, to be quite honest, one of the most brutal and deadliest as well. After Nacht had captured the four devils, his father handed him the ring connecting to Lucifugus, thinking Nacht could force him into a contract.
Lucifugus appeared and quite easily killed off Nacht’s family, which left him deeply scarred and out seeking revenge. Nevertheless, Lucifugus is one of the strongest devils to ever exist, specifically given his overarching dark mana that can even rival the likes of Lucifero and other high-ranked devils. This gives him the 8th spot on this list.
7) Magicula
Vanica is a member of the Spade Kingdom’s Dark Triad and hosts the Devil Megicula. Megicula is one of the highest-ranking devils connected to the Tree of Qliphoth.
Vanica uses Blood Magic to generate and manipulate blood. Although Magicula was not initially one of the top three strongest, she later replaced Astaroth after he disappeared.
She can also use Curse-Warding Magic to create powerful curses. Megicula gives her immense magic power, which even allows her to block Sea Dragon’s Roar easily. She could even curse the princess of the Heart Kingdom, showing her enormous power. She manages to take 7th place on this list.
6) Zagred
Zagred is a high-ranking devil who masterminded the creation of Licht’s five-leaf clover grimoire. He specializes in Kotodama Magic which allows him to alter his surroundings through speech.
He can also manifest physical and magical objects, as well as imitate others’ magic. He is capable of possessing the bodies of elves and humans, making him extremely dangerous, and also, his dark elves’ magic manipulation is second to none.
He has a five-leaf clover grimoire that augments his Kotodama Magic. He is also able to summon various monsters from the underworld, making him the 6th most powerful character in Black Clover.
5) Beelzebub
Beelzebub is one of the three devil kings residing in the lowest sections of the underworld and has a contract with Zenon Zogrates. Zenon is a member of the Spade Kingdom’s Dark Triad.
He uses Bone Magic, that allows him to generate and manipulate his own bones. He releases massive tangles of bones that can’t be evaded and are sharp like spears.
He can also use Spatial Magic which grants him the power to create spatial cubes that negate the mana trapped within them. He is also a devil host, which gives him immense magic power. His dual mana attribute and his insane battle skills make him the 5th most powerful character in Black Clover.
4) Yuno (Star and Wind magic)
Yuno is a 5th Class Intermediate Magic Knight of the Clover Kingdom’s Golden Dawn and Royal Knights Squad. He is later promoted to vice-captain of the Golden Dawn.
Sylph, the spirit of the wind, decides to serve him after he finds her scroll in a dungeon. He is recently shown to be able to manipulate the star magic for attacks such as meteor showers.
His primary asset is his Wind Magic which allows him to generate and manipulate wind. He can also use his Spirit Magic to summon Sylph to assist him in his battles and further enhance his Wind Magic.
Recently, it is revealed that Yuni is the prince of the Spade Kingdom. And his original magic is Star Magic. It is one of the most powerful magics in Black Clover that grants too many overwhelming abilities. His star magic also gives him a better ability to manipulate the spatial sense.
He can also use Spirit Absorption to merge with Sylph and increase his magic power and transform himself. Thus, he deservedly takes 4th place along with Sylph.
3) Asta x Liebe
Asta is an orphan raised under the care of a church in Hage. After turning 15 years old, Asta received a five-leaf clover grimoire with an Anti Magic devil inside.
As a result, he is connected to Liebe, who possesses Anti Magic which grants him the power to access this energy. On uniting with Liebe, his anti-magic powers are greatly enhanced, making him insanely powerful.
Asta’s partial devil union lasts for five minutes and complete devil union for five seconds, after which he needs a cooldown time.
He is also able to summon Anti Magic Swords like Demon-Slayer Sword, Demon-Dweller Sword, Demon-Destroyer Sword, and Demon-Slasher Katana. In his complete union form, almost no characters can come close to defeating him.
2) Lucifero
Lucifero was the surprise package of the spade Kingdom Arc and is really one of the most powerful characters and the most powerful devil of the underworld. Lucifero wields anti-gravity magic that gives him control over the manipulation of gravity all around him.
Lucifero, after regaining his full power, is near impossible to defeat, and Asta was only able to defeat him with the help of the other fighters and also because Lucifero was still not at his maximum power level. Nevertheless, he takes second place on this list.
1) Julius x Lucius x Astaroth
The most powerful character in Black Clover is Julius, or we can say Lucius Zogratis, the host of Astaroth devil. He has been the mastermind of all the events in the Black Clover series till now.Â
Julius is the 28th Magic Emperor of the Clover Kingdom’s Magic Knights. He excels in Time Magic which grants him the power to manipulate time. He can accelerate, decelerate, stop or even reverse the flow of time.
In this way, he can also heal injuries. In addition to this, he can use Restraining Magic and Transformation Magic. His immense magic power and speed further compliment his strength. He possesses a coverless grimoire that contains various time-based spells.
However, in the manga chapter 331, it was finally revealed that the devil Astaroth was residing within Julius the whole time. Julius has the split personality of Lucius Zogratis.Â
Astaroth, the King of Underworld also has time magic which explains Julius’ powers. It really means that with the most powerful devil and the most powerful control over time, Julius is really the strongest character in the entire series.
Special Mentions:
1) Paladins
Paladins are the purified humans that are transformed by Lucius, the antagonist of the series. Presently, the final arc is going on, and we have seen a glimpse of their ability that is very overwhelming.
Lucius created these Paladins as his army against every mage. These Paladins have the purified souls of powerful devils, which means they can use that devil’s magic in purified form. Currently, the known members are Sister Lily, Heath, and Yrul.
2) Ryuzen Seven
Ryuzen Seven is the group of seven most powerful mages in the Land of Rising Sun, serving under Ryudo Ryuya, the shogun of the country. These seven mages use advanced ki-manipulation called Zetten.
In terms of physical strength, they are far more potent than Asta. Asta was not able to fight any of them, even with the help of Liebe. Presently, the series will show the full potential of Ryuzen Seven.
