The story of Jujutsu Kaisen starts with the jujutsu sorcerer Megumi Fushiguro looking for one of Ryomen Sukuna’s fingers and meeting Yuji Itadori. Yuji eats the finger and becomes Sukuna’s vessel in the process, to save Megumi from the cursed spirits. This is where Yuji, Megumi, and Sukuna’s fates intertwine.
Since the early days, Sukuna has shown a special affinity towards Megumi that is not shared by any other characters in the story. This leads to fans wondering over the reason behind Sukuna’s obsession and this is exactly what we’ll discuss here. Let’s find out why Sukuna is so obsessed with Megumi.
What we’ll talk about here is quite further down the story and yet to appear in the anime. So, there will be some spoilers ahead; proceed with caution.

Sukuna’s Obsession with Megumi Fushiguro
Though Sukuna encounters Megumi the first night he’s incarnated, it isn’t until the Fearsome Womb Arc that he takes special notice of the young jujutsu sorcerer. After taking over Yuji’s body, the two fight where Sukuna very easily overpowers Megumi to the point that he considers summoning Mahoraga before backing down.
Ever since that encounter, Sukuna maintains a continuous obsession with Megumi. During the Death Painting Arc, the King of Curses sees Megumi use his incomplete Domain Expansion: Chimera Shadow Garden against the finger-bearer curse and is instantly impressed, calling Megumi interesting.
However, the most prominent example of Sukuna’s obsession and special treatment toward Megumi is shown in the Shibuya Incident Arc where Sukuna saves Megumi from death and fights and exorcizes Mahoraga to protect him. He even casts his Domain in a way that won’t hurt Megumi.
Why Is Sukuna Obsessed with Megumi
The reason for this special treatment toward Megumi is the fact that Sukuna sees and acknowledges the huge potential that the jujutsu sorcerer carries. Several characters in the story, including Satoru Gojo, have commented on Megumi’s potential as a jujutsu sorcerer. Gojo even acknowledges that Megumi has the potential to become as strong as him.
Sukuna recognizes the same potential in Megumi and makes some elaborate plans for the future keeping Megumi in mind. Over the course of the story, Sukuna keeps track of how strong Megumi is getting, looking for an opportunity to act on his plans.
From the first time Sukuna notices Megumi, he has been making plans to make Megumi his vessel instead. This way he gets access to the Ten Shadows Technique which is the most powerful inherited Cursed Technique of the Zenin Clan. So, the reason Sukuna is so obsessed with Megumi and deliberately keeps him alive is to force Megumi to become his vessel and get access to the Ten Shadows Technique.
Megumi’s Fate
Sukuna’s plan finally comes to fruition toward the end of the Culling Game Arc. In Chapter 212, after Yorozu reveals that she’s been using Tsumiki Fushiguro’s body, Sukuna takes advantage of the confusion and takes over Yuji’s body by chanting “Enchain.” Once he has control over Yuji’s body, he knocks out Hana Kurusu and rips off one of Yuji’s fingers.
Sukuna then forcefully feeds the finger to Megumi, successfully transferring his incarnation to Megumi from Yuji. With this, Megumi becomes his latest vessel. That very plan is the reason Sukuna has been obsessed with Megumi Fushiguro.
