Jujutsu Kaisen started with seemingly ordinary teenager Yuji Itadori eating a finger of King of Curses Ryomen Sukuna and becoming his vessel in the process. Sukuna’s nefarious plans have been escalating ever since and now he’s finally managed to get rid of his strongest obstacle. But this very incident is a clear premonition that Yuji Itadori will be the last hope against Sukuna.
In this article, we’ll be discussing the upcoming Yuji vs. Sukuna fight and how Yuji can pose a threat against Sukuna. Needless to say, there will be plenty of spoilers in our discussion, so here is a spoiler alert from us.

Yuji vs. Sukuna
Ever since the Culling Game Arc when Sukuna cleverly took control of Megumi Fushiguro’s body, things have been going downhill for the jujutsu sorcerers. After a long drawn-out fight against Satoru Gojo, the strongest jujutsu sorcerer of modern times, Sukuna finally managed to kill Gojo.
It was an unrecoverable hit to the jujutsu sorcerers as no one was as strong as Gojo and if Gojo couldn’t defeat Sukuna, there was little to no chance that nobody else would be able to. After Gojo, the next person to go against Sukuna was Hajime Kashimo. But he was killed relatively easily and Sukuna finally recovered his real body.
Now with two major players gone, the only option the jujutsu sorcerers have is to make tag teams. Thus, Yuji and Hiroomi Higuruma partner together to go up against Sukuna. The story shifts its focus to Kenjaku as Yuji finally enters the battle against Sukuna, so we’ll have to wait some more to know what happens next between them.
How Yuji Is the Last Hope Against Sukuna?
Though this fight is clearly not the climactic battle of Jujutsu Kaisen, we can safely assume that the final fight will be Yuji against Sukuna. There are a lot of reasons supporting that assumption and the first and most obvious one will be that Yuji is the protagonist of Jujutsu Kaisen and Sukuna is the primary antagonist.
Another obvious reason is that there aren’t a lot of jujutsu sorcerers powerful enough to counter Sukuna. In fact, in his real form, none of them can, not even Yuta Okkotsu, Maki Zenin, or Kinji Hakari. Though Gojo once said that Yuta and Hakari had to potential to be as strong as him, it’d still be impossible for them to win against Sukuna because Gojo evidently couldn’t defeat him even before he regained his original body.
From a storytelling point of view, Megumi can have a large role in going up against Sukuna since he is the deuteragonist of the story and is predicted to be as strong as or even stronger than Gojo. But it’s still unclear how Megumi will be released from Sukuna’s clutches.
Yuji is the prime candidate to go against Sukuna because there has been an ongoing antagonism between them from the very start. Sukuna took a lot of joy in tormenting Yuji throughout the story and he must have revenge for that coming.
As for Yuji’s powers, while he’s currently clearly weaker than Sukuna, he has tremendous potential to become the story’s strongest character. His powers as the offspring of Kenjaku are still unexplored but we can already guess how big a power-up he’ll receive before the final fight of the series.
