Revolutionary Army: Past, Creation, True Goal, and Members

One of the three great forces in One Piece is the Revolutionary Army, along with the World Government and the Yonko. While the World Government acts as the sole institution of law and the Yonko are on the complete opposite side of the law, the Revolutionary Army is more interested in changing the law.

In this article, we’ll discuss the Revolutionary Army, how it was founded, its true goal, and its significant members. But before that, remember there is a spoiler warning in effect as there will be much information in this article that is yet to appear in the anime.

Now, without any further ado, let’s talk about what the Revolutionary Army is:

What Is the Revolutionary Army?

Revolutionary Army

The Revolutionary Army is the largest and most powerful rebel force in the world. They are a very influential military organization that is spread throughout the world. The organization is led by Monkey D. Dragon who has been termed as the “most wanted man in the world” because of the threat he and his army pose to the World Government.

The Revolutionary Army is quite big, with thousands of soldiers, and the numbers are ever-growing. The army has multiple divisions, each one led by its own Commander. Each commander has their own Deputy Commander who helps them lead their faction. The soldiers of this rebel force are all trained in combat and provided with weapons. However, they never harm any citizen, only the soldiers of the World Government.

The headquarters of the Revolutionary Army used to be in Baltigo but the exhaustive battle against the Blackbeard Pirates led them to change their headquarters to Kamabakka Kingdom in Momoiro Island.

Past

Past

The World Government, particularly the Celestial Dragons, has been ruling the world with brutal heartlessness, causing several atrocities that normal people have to endure silently. The peak of their many atrocities includes forced slavery and hunting ordinary people for their own fun. One such horrible deed of theirs is the Ohara Incident where the World Government destroyed the entire island of Ohara just because they could read Poneglyphs.

It was around that time when the execution of the Pirate King Gol D. Roger happened and the Great Pirate Era began. When the world was shaken by all these major events, Monkey D. Dragon partnered with Emporio Ivankov and they founded the Freedom Fighters together.

The Freedom Fighters led charges to several kingdoms where the monarchy was abusing the people of the country and the citizens wanted to get rid of their rulers. The rebel army attacked the monarchy of such kingdoms and dethroned their leaders, virtually taking these kingdoms out of the control of the World Government.

Creation

Creation

22 years ago, in the Sorbet Kingdom of South Blue, King Becori passed a new law that stated that the kingdom would be split in two. The northern part where Castle Town is located would be considered as the real Sorbet Kingdom while the southern part would be cast aside as the lawless area. The king made this law to reduce the Celestial Tribute that they had to pay the World Government.

During this time, Bartholomew Kuma, who was 25 years old at that time, was a pastor in a church in the southern part of the Sorbet Kingdom. When the royal army kidnapped southerners to make them slaves, Kuma protested and attacked the kidnappers, leading to him being jailed. When Ginny and other Southerners tried to break Kuma out of prison, they were arrested too.

While Kuma and the others were in jail, the Freedom Fighters attacked the Sorbet Kingdom and defeated the royal army, and dethroned King Becori. After that, Ivankov led Dragon to the prison where they freed Kuma and his companions. From then on, Kuma joined the Freedom Fighters. With Kuma becoming the third pillar of the rebel army, the organization changed its name from Freedom Fighters to the Revolutionary Army.

True Goal

The true goal of the Revolutionary Army is to stop the dictatorial rule of the World Government over the world and bring true justice to society. To achieve that, they deploy their forces to those kingdoms where the citizens are rebelling against their ruler and are trying to free their country.
