All thanks to our two great commentators, the misunderstandings revolving around her were solved one by one, baring her sweet and cute nature. No wonder Sieg fell in love with her all over again!

For a series that disguised its deep darkness with a cute exterior, Anne is the perfect protagonist! Both cute and inspiring, it’s hard not to find her likable.

Akane has a vivacious and warm personality. People usually find her easy to converse with. However, she does sometimes display some childlike dispositions. Despite her upbeat demeanor, she keeps her opinion candid and is not afraid to speak up, something which Yamada especially likes.

Imagine a little puffball of sunshine dropped into a world of magic and adventure. That’s Fern! A young human mage, Fern is a member of Frieren’s party and also her apprentice. She is usually quite mature, acting as the mother of the party despite her young age.

However, you bet she can pout when she wants to! She can get easily upset and is prone to childish ways. Still, she is extremely loyal and is able to maintain a calm head during battle. Not to mention, her discipline to train is nothing to scoff at.

From a traumatized, timid girl rose a strong, determined maiden! Miyo Saimori proved that it was her abusive environment that was holding her back. If chance had been given to her before, she would have already been a beautiful, confident, and smart woman from the beginning. She only needed love and someone to believe in her to shine.

Miyo didn’t let her trauma define her. Of course, credit has to be given to Kiyoka for giving her a chance to grow, but she stood up by her own two feet. Her sheer will and kindness are unlike any other.

Beatrix Amerhauser, often known as just Bea, came to Japan from Germany with the hopes of trying the best sushi in the world. Sadly, the zombie outbreak threw a wrench in her plans, but she didn’t let that get her down!

Bea is outgoing, free-spirited, and kindhearted. Many of us will relate to her on her enthusiasm for Japanese culture. Her drive is crazy as she happily busted zombies to get fresh fish for her sushi.

It is not easy to stand up to a zombie outbreak, but Shizuka Mikazuki used her wits to survive in the new world. She was a lone scavenger until she met Akira and became a part of his group.

Akira is logical and incredibly smart. Her quick-thinking skills make her an indispensable part of the group. She is also physically strong. While she is aloof and blunt with her words, her kuudere traits have their charm.

The protagonist of the Nier franchise, 2B is a YoRHa android created to battle the invading machines on behalf of humans. She is an all-purpose battle android, equipped to handle every kind of combat.

2B can be seen as a kuudere type. She is a blade of quiet determination, discouraging idle chatter and following the rules given to her. She is not as stoic, however, as she pretends to be, as her kindness often gets the better of her. 2B is prone to letting her emotionless guise slip in certain situations, revealing her true emotions.

Hakari is always planning and plotting, although her plans tend to go awry due to her clumsy disposition. The gap between her witty side and her clumsy side is something the viewers find endearing.

She was cool and charming from the moment she appeared on the screen. Yuzuriha is a kunoichi and a death row criminal. After she was sentenced to death, she was left on the island, believed to be Shinsenkyō, to battle other criminals and get the Elixir of Life for the shogun.

Yuzuriha doesn’t hesitate to use her charms against others. Beautiful and deadly is what comes to mind when you see her. She had a multi-layered personality throughout the series, coming off as cruel and ruthless in the beginning and growing to fight alongside her teammates.

If the thousands of fangirls and fanboys screaming don’t tell you all you need to know about Maki, I don’t know what will. To spite her clan who mistreated her, Maki vows to be a great Jujutsu sorcerer, currently working with Panda and Toge.

Maki is headstrong and straightforward, with a drive as tough as steel. She proved her strength and tenacity, time and time again, and has grown exponentially throughout the course of the series.

9. Ruby Hoshino

Our young idol star was bound to show up on the list. Ruby Hoshino is one of the titular protagonists of the series, along with Aqua. Having suffered a difficult previous life, she was absolutely delighted to find herself reincarnated into one of the twins of her favorite idol, Ai Hoshino, along with her twin brother Aqua.

The twins are like two sides of the same coin. While Aqua is more discreet, Ruby is extroverted, outgoing, and optimistic, perfect for her idol image. Later in the series, she reveals she is much more cunning than she lets on.

8. Suzume Iwato

Makoto Shinkai never misses her young female protagonists, and it was delightful to see Suzume just as nuanced of a character. Not one to be fine with being left behind, she may be a high school student, but she certainly has the guts to rival that of adults.

Suzume certainly holds the weight to be one of the best girls of 2023. Her fiery spirit shines through her every action. Her optimism and infectious enthusiasm are a beacon of hope. Tragedy may have made her more vulnerable, but she embraced her inner strength and forged her own path on the journey to save Sout and the rest of the world.

7. Frieren

The series hadn’t even taken flight when Frieran’s popularity came bursting forth. For such a complex and multi-layered character, it is nice to see the series giving her justice.

Usually appearing aloof and having an easy-going personality, she too has things she gets easily embarrassed by.

Not to mention her powerful abilities. She may have trouble gauging time by human standards, but you can’t really blame her for that. The way she decided to get to know humans better and improve upon herself is not an easy feat anyone can do.

6. Nobara Kugisaki

Again, you need only look at the Jujutsu Kaisen fandom to see how beloved Nobara is. With an unshakable character and limitless potential, she is a force to be reckoned with.

Whether she’s slaying curses, bantering with her teammates, or silently struggling with her own doubts, Nobara Kugisaki is a character who steals the show. Her fiery spirit, sharp wit, and hidden vulnerability can move the coldest of hearts, and she is a true model for all the young fans out there.

Someone whose name is Thorn Princess can obviously be no ordinary woman. Beauty and strength personified, Yor Forger is the deadly assassin of Garden. In order to appear “normal” and avoid suspicion, she marries Loid (Code Name: Twilight) and becomes Anya’s mother.

Her beauty steals breaths, her smile melts frosty hearts, and her laugh rings like silver bells. Yet, her fingers wield knives with practiced grace, and her eyes flicker with the quiet understanding of one who dances with death. This combo of sweet but deadly is definitely not good for our hearts.

3. Ai Hoshino

Ai Hoshino needed all but one episode to shake the long-standing waifus of this generation. The dazzling star and tragic mother at the heart of Oshi no Ko, shimmers like a supernova, leaving a trail of light and shadow in her wake.

As an idol, her life was deceitful, wrapped in lies about her love towards her fans. It’s difficult to truly grasp her nuances in one paragraph. She is like the light that burnt the brightest, was extinguished too soon, and left her long shadows over everyone who knew her.

2. Sagiri Yamada Asaemon

Yamada Asaemon Sagiri, the 12th-ranked Asaemon of the Yamada clan, was sent to Shinsekyo as Gabimaru’s monitor. As the deuteragonist of the series, she gave us everything and more. Ever dutiful, she serves the Shogun to excellence but refuses to ever give up on her ideals to fulfill orders.

Sagiri’s journey is a poignant dance of redemption and defiance. In Gabimaru, a man who defies death and embraces life, she finds a mirror reflecting her own buried humanity.

Their unlikely bond becomes a beacon of hope in the infernal landscape, a testament to the enduring power of compassion in the face of despair. The series would have truly been incomplete without her.

Would anyone believe such a small petite body to hold this much fervor and wit?
