Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3: Expected Release Date and Plot

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 ended recently, concluding the Shibuya Incident Arc with its finale. The anime is inarguably one of the best and most-watched anime of the year. It earned high ratings on MyAnimeList, surpassing those of its previous season. The hype for Jujutsu Kaisen is so high that fans are already looking forward to Season 3 now that Season 2 is complete.

The overwhelmingly positive acclamation Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 earned solidified the renewal of the anime for another season. With the finale episode, MAPPA has also released a teaser for Season 3. Here are the expected release date and plot of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Ending Plot

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Ending Plot

The second season of Jujutsu Kaisen adapted two arcs from the manga: the Hidden Inventory Arc and the Shibuya Incident Arc. In the first arc of the season, we saw the past of Satoru Gojo when he was a second-year student at Tokyo Jujutsu High, together with Suguru Geto and Shoko Ieiri.

The Shibuya Incident took the majority of the second season. In this arc, several crucial incidents happened, including the sealing of Gojo inside the Prison Realm, and the death of Kento Nanami. One of the biggest and most important events of the Shibuya Incident Arc was Sukuna taking over Yuji Itadori’s body after Yuji was fed ten of Sukuna’s fingers at once.

After taking control of Yuji’s body, Sukuna wreaked havoc, killing Nanako and Mimiko Hasaba, and Jogo. In this arc, Megumi Fushiguro summoned Mahoraga, the most powerful Shikigami out there. This arc was the first time Mahoraga was revealed after its existence had been teased several times in the story before.

Sukuna’s fight against Mahoraga destroyed most of Shibuya before the King of Curses managed to exorcize the Shikigami. After Yuji took control of his body back, he was horrified to find the destruction and murders Sukuna committed with his body. This was only the beginning of Yuji’s suffering in this arc.

The Shibuya Incident Arc ended with Mahito absorbed by Pseudo-Geto before his identity was revealed to be Noritoshi Kamo, the most evil man in history, by Choso. Yuki Tsukumo, one of the four special grade jujutsu sorcerers, also joined the fight, together with the students of Kyoto Jujutsu High. Pseudo-Geto and Uraume fought against Yuji and the rest of the jujutsu sorcerers.

At the end of Season 2, Yuta Okkotsu returned to Japan and made a Binding Vow to kill Yuji.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 Expected Release Date

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 Expected Release Date

With the final episode of Season 2, MAPPA also confirmed the return of Jujutsu Kaisen for a third season along with a teaser. However, there has been no information on when Season 3 will return.

Jujutsu Kaisen premiered in October 2020 and ran until March 2021 with 24 episodes. Next came the prequel movie, Jujutsu Kaisen 0, which was released in December 2021. The much-awaited second season started its run this year in July and took a hiatus of three weeks after finishing the Hidden Inventory Arc. The anime adaptation of the Shibuya Incident Arc began on August 31, 2023, and ran until December 28, 2023.

Even though MAPPA has been consistent with their supply of Jujutsu Kaisen content since it premiered, Season 3 may not be the same case. This year there have been numerous complaints and controversies because of the way the animators at MAPPA are treated. Several animators spoke out about how overworked they are and the toxic work culture they are suffering from.

Fans of the series are very concerned and have relayed their support for the crew. Hopefully, the animators will be treated better and have a better work environment from now on. Because of all the backlash MAPPA earned with the second season, Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 is being predicted to be a bit late.

There is a lot of conjecture that Season 3 will premiere in 2025. But, as mentioned before, there has been no official statement from MAPPA on the release year and even the directors for the third season.

While we do not know when Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 will be released, we do know what to expect in the new season. As seen in the teaser, Season 3 will pick up right after the events of the Season 2 finale. Yuta is all set to kill Yuji, after forming a Binding Vow with the higher-ups of the jujutsu world.

The third season will begin with the short Itadori Extermination Arc. The majority of the season will feature the Culling Game Arc, in which Pseudo-Geto (now known as Noritoshi Kamo) will initiate a battle royale for jujutsu sorcerers and curse users, known as the eponymous Culling Game

The Culling Game Arc is the longest arc of Jujutsu Kaisen, surpassing the Shibuya Incident Arc by five chapters. It is also the arc that introduces the most number of new characters in one arc. This is undoubtedly one of the most crucial story arcs of the series that features numerous explosive and important plot points.

In the Culling Game Arc, many important characters will make their debut and the true identity of Psedo-Geto will be completely revealed. Many old characters will demonstrate their best while new characters will introduce new and exciting powers.

There is another arc between the Itadori Extermination Arc and the Culling Game Arc, called the Perfect Preparation Arc. This arc focuses on the Zenin Family and the preparation for the Culling Game. The arc takes up 18 chapters which may result in six or so episodes.

It’s still unknown if Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 can complete the entirety of the Culling Game along with adapting the two previous arcs. The information will be released eventually.

Conclusion

This is all that is to know about Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3. Even though the second season only just ended, fans are already eagerly waiting for Season 3. But it’s okay if it comes a little late if only the animators and the rest of the crew can have a better work environment.

Until Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 is released, fans have the manga to focus on. Still continuing with the Shinjuku Showdown Arc, the story is at its peak.
